The STUBBORN RECORDS
label was started in 1992 by King
Django to release Tales
of the Red, SKINNERBOX's
first album. In the years that followed with a slow but steady stream of music
coming out of Django's Version
City Studio, Stubborn Records defined the sound of New York's traditional
ska/rocksteady/reggae scene. With heroes like Prince Buster, Coxsone Dodd and
Duke Reid and artists like Skinnerbox,
Stubborn
All-Stars, Victor
Rice, Crazy
Baldhead, Rocker
T, King
Django, The
Radiation Kings, Cold
Spot 8 and Version
City Rockers, Stubborn's path was clear. Based around the old-school Jamaican
studio system and techniques and excercising stringent musical and technical
standards, the Stubborn label has developed a catalog of lasting worth and deep
impact despite its relatively small size. Stubborn releases are not trendy or
"of-the-moment." They are solid and timeless. With fifteen CD releases
and eight 7" releases on the Stubborn label proper and many other releases
licensed to Moon Ska Records, Profile/Another Planet, Triple Crown Records,
Grover Records, Asian Man Records, Jump Start Records, Megalith Records and
others, Stubborn has had an indelible influence on the sound of international
ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub.
Ska's not dead. it's Stubborn!
