“We are hard workers; The guys who roll up their flannel shirts and get down to business. No nonsense. No gimmicks. Just us being ourselves”
- Steve St.Pierre, Old Crowns
Old Crowns began like any modern day love story; online want-ads, followed by a first date over Jack Daniels, pizza and a flowing conversation of common dreams. Gathering together for the first time in an Ottawa apartment in early 2009, Joel Soucy, Steve St.Pierre and brothers, Alex and Sam Seguin recorded a 13 song demo on a cell phone – not knowing that within a year, this fateful collaboration would have successfully released an EP (Oct 2009), a 10-song self-titled debut LP (April 2010), digital and vinyl release (June 2010), been nominated for Ottawa XPress’ Best New Group, Best Folk/Country Album/EP of 2010, and Best Country/Folk/World Music Band/Artist of 2010 (October 2010) and have shared the stages with the likes of Cuff the Duke, The Wooden Sky, Rural Alberta Advantage and many more.
Fronted by the raspy vocals and acoustic guitar of St.Pierre, fused with the bold bass lines of Soucy, the confident guitar hooks and echoplex from S. Seguin and aggressive rhythm from A. Seguin on drums, Old Crowns offer a unique, down-to-earth, sweat inducing, foot stomping rock meets folk sound. Coined as “roots rock”, the band’s music suggests the realism of old Americana with an acoustic-rock twist and draws comparisons to the likes of early Matt Mays, and My Morning Jacket. Using an uninhibited stream-of-conscious style of writing, Old Crowns music paints timeless pictures of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Decked in tattered t-shirts and hearts on their sleeves, the band’s polished live show plays with dynamics offering gut wrenching soft moments with mixed up with some heavy hitting rock n’ roll.

Old Crowns demonstrate that these days, the beginning of a beautiful and long lasting relationship doesn’t always involve a fancy story; nor does the greatest music always need the support of glitz and glamour to find its way to dedicated listeners. Old Crowns are proof that all it takes is a little sweat and a lot of heart.
“…one of the best albums I've heard so far this year.”
-Matthew Pollesel. i(heart)music. March 2010
