“What you thought I wore this shirt because it’s funny?” stated native Bay Area rapper Stak Chippaz referring to the t shirt that he was wearing baring an oversized food stamp with the words “ Remember them days, Throwback Money” written on it. Staks can relate to the struggle because that’s exactly where he’s come from.

Born and breed in the San Francisco Bay Area Jose Alberto Santiago III formerly known on the streets as Young Chopper now Stak Chippaz is a hip hop artist dedicated to bringing an international flare, stimulated by his Puerto Rican heritage, to his Northern California inspired sound. This CaliRican has managed to reach 8,000 units sold as part of the Hard Headz rap group, independent of any distribution deal. Doing what he calls “gorilla promoting” the debut group album was circulated through the streets in their promotion van when the group would hit the tour circuit in the summer. Staks is one of Northern California's hardest and truest rhyme spitters, the self proclaimed Latin King of the Bay he has released one album as part of the Hard Headz group and his first solo mix tape Family and Money. Very few can match his style but more importantly the respect that He has earned through credibility of the streets. For the past 3 years he has been featured on the Street Low Magazine Tour through out the Southwest of the United States selling out almost every show and increasing his fan base from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, Texas, Arizona, Las Vegas, and New Mexico.

Sound

Shortly following an incident where he was stabbed twice in the abdomen Staks knew that he had to refocus his life, as he put it “ I knew that it was time to start bangin’ out the hits”. His first mix tape, “Family and Money” was filled with what Staks describes as, “some exclusive radio drops and street bangers that showcased my raw talent.” His influence are eclectic ranging from salsa and reggaeton to of course rap and hip hop artists such as Big Pun, Fat Joe, Nas, Jadakiss, and others.

Current Project

Currently Staks is working on his first original solo project tentatively entitle Hyphy Latino. He comments that this is a reflection of the current trend in the Bay Area known as the Hyphy Movement, mixed with Latin flavor, and of course adding those distinctive street influenced lyrics. “I rep the Bay everywhere I go but my lyrics can be understood and related to by anyone that grew up the same was I did and had to hustle there way to the top. This industry is a hustle and if you don’t have the right background you’ll get burned just like you would on the streets.”

Stak Chippaz is currently working with A&R Select, an independent A&R firm in Hollywood California.
