In 1999 Staircase gets on stage for the very first time. Two years later, in 2001, encouraged by a crowd of dedicated fans, Staircase makes it to the Belgian Finale of the European music contest Emergenza. In the Botanique in Brussels the professional jury with representatives of Marshall, Ernie Ball and Sennheiser, rewards Staircase with the award for best singer. The band will win seven other rock contests over the next two years.

In 2003 Staircase signs its first record deal. From that point on, the band works on its debut album with producer Mario Goossens (TriggerFinger, Blackbox Revelation) and sound engineers Paul Van Bruystegem (TriggerFinger, Wolfbanes) and Filip Goris. In 2005 the album is released. The title, "Superorganism", refers to the cohesion that is so characteristic for the band.

In 2006 Staircase meets up with Huub Reijnders who at the age of 27 already earned his stripes as sound engineer for Green Day, Keane and U2 among many others. Under the guidance of this young studio wizard, Staircase starts to record new material.

In 2007 the band receives an invitation from Midpoint Music Festival in the US and crosses the Atlantic Ocean. Before playing the scheduled shows in Cincinnati and Columbus, Staircase makes a short stop in New York. Within 12 hours after arrival, the band –unexpectedly– gets on stage at the Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan, an emotional high in the bands existence. Later that year Staircase is invited by the international youth festival San-Art to perform in Ankara, Turkey.

In 2009 Staircase is signed by Sony Music Entertainment.

The first product of this new alliance is released on the Columbia label.

The song, produced by Yannick Fonderie & Huub Reijnders and mastered by John Davis (Snow Patrol and Stereophonics among others) at the Metropolis Studio in London, is called “Y&M Kissin’" (read: you and me kissing). A song about that first real kiss. Remember? Of course you do!
