"There's a real RxBandits tone to the guitars and brass on this record. Early RxB too, for me that particular band's best era. And while I couldn't possibly say if the sound was purposeful or not, it makes Splendid Eddie a very enjoyable listen. Six song EPs are perfect for whetting the listener's apetite and leaving them gasping for more and this record does exactly that - and I don't even like 'ska' (not that this band are solely a ska band).
'Too Many false Dawns' kicks things off in great style. There are so many influences going on, bold and brassy trombones, searing vocals and even some backing screams. In a way it's like Incubus colliding with RxB. It's their efforts to avoid sounding like a conventional ska band that make their songs so interesting. There's a very laidback feel to 'Fan of the Famine' too. As a first introduction, I'm impressed. Getting this record out on the road will almost certainly yield positive results."
