"Fans of pure-of-purpose British pop will want to bend a head in the direction of Spirits, the most fantastic and fey U.K. fop-rock band I've heard in year. The best, most hilarious, part though is that they aren't from the U.K. at all, but rather from Kitchener, Ontario. And this rich debut wasn't produced by Eno or some shit, but rather by themselves, and is still sounds huge." -- 4.5 stars, Jamie O’Meara, HOUR

Recorded at Hamilton’s Catherine North Studio with long-time friend Dan Achen, the band’s self-titled debut album was released in Canada in late 2009 to critical acclaim by Sonic Unyon. It dutifully captures the new, young band at the beginning of their musical relationships with one another and lets the world in to see just how exciting of a band this trio is sure to become. It wasn’t just the critics that noticed either, as they were voted both Best Band and Band to Watch in the readers poll of their hometown magazine, Echo Weekly.

Since completing the album, the band has been met the demands of some very high profile support slots and have managed to win over many new fans along the way. Opening for the Pixies, Psychedelic Furs and Happy Mondays gave them exposure to new Canadians, while their October tour of South Africa supporting the Parlotones put them in front of more than 25,000 new friends in just three nights work. The band have also played with a number of other great Canadian bands along the way, including Crystal Castles, Tokyo Police Club and the New Pornographers - not to mention a Canadian tour with Melanie C (yeah, that Melanie C).
