Una de las bandas de música jamaicana más conocidas de la península edita este próximo mes de abril su segundo LP "South West Town" con el sello vasco Brixton Records. Tras el éxito del anterior trabajo "You Give Me Fever", que les llevó a actuar por toda Europa, este nuevo disco contará de nuevo con colaboraciones de lujo y con su sonido old school jamaicano que les caracteriza. La gira de presentación de este esperado disco les llevará de nuevo de gira por toda la península y también por Francia. Sin duda, Soweto és la formación que mejor representa la música jamaicana clásica hecha en España… this is ska!
Soweto nace en la Vila de Gràcia hacia el año 1998, las influencias de la musica jamaicana y los sonidos tradicionales de la cultura negra hace que un grupo de amigos decidan encontrar tiempo para reunirse y empezar una experiencia desafiante, reproducir toda la música que hasta el momento solo escuchaban y admiraban. El camino no fue fácil, pero la banda, después de su primer concierto en 1999, empieza a consolidarse y a coger otro sentido, de manera que el grupo encuentra en los escenarios y en su público una forma de canalización y proyección de su música. La banda sigue su curso de manera lenta, pero sin pausa, hay cambios de miembros, empiezan los conciertos y actos importantes. Cada vez, y como músicos en proyección, su música es de más calidad y sus intervenciones más celebradas por la crítica. Eso hace que hoy en dia, Soweto, sea uno de los grupos emblemáticos dentro de la música jamaicana de Barcelona.
ENGLISH BIO:Soweto, one of the most popular spanish ska bands will release their second and awaited album "South West Town" next april 2011. After the release of "You Give Me Fever" in 2008, Soweto has been confirmed, without any doubt, as the best spanish band playing old school ska and reggae.
Soweto was born in 1998 in Barcelona under the influence of jamaican music and the traditional sounds of black culture, making a group of friends start playing the music that they were listening and admiring at that moment. The way was not easy, but after the first concert of the band, the group finds in the scenes and his public a form of channelling and projection of his music.
The band continues his path without pause, with members' changes, concerts and other acts of importance. His music wins little by little in quality and his interventions are highlighted increasingly by the specializing critique. Nowadays the band is formed by nine members and is considered one of the best black music formations from Spain. The current and already consolidated formation edited a maxi single in 2005 under the name of "Selects…", and it was conceived for his more faithful public, and also for the whole people who does not know this type of music. The members of the band describe their musical influences as black music of the 50s, 60s and 70s, and especially the one manufactured in Jamaica with all his slopes as jazz, blues, soul, funk or R&B: Prince Buster, The Pioneers, The Skatalites, The Maytals, The Gaylads, Soul Brothers, Carlos Malcom, Laurel Aitken.
After touring Spain and part of Europe in 2006, and wining some important contests in Spain, Soweto finally edited in 2008 their first album "You Give me Fever", one of the best ska albums ever recorded in Spain. In 2009 and 2010, Soweto has been playing in Spain and Europe, and also backing the jamaican legend B.B.Seaton from The Gaylads at some festivals.
