Complete with the kind of 'hard-driving sound' which has historically defined the genre, the Southpaw Bluegrass Band (SpBB) is quickly becoming an Omaha institution. Based on their growing list of original songs and instrumentals, honest treatment of bluegrass standards, solid, fast-paced picking, and vocal arrangements inspired by the peaks and valleys of Appalachia, the group continues to weave their own unique holler into the long-standing traditions of the music. Southpaw’s success can best be attributed to the idea of passive persistence. Says banjo player Steve Hoiberg, "We've never been ardent self promoters, but we remain consistently active in a creative sense. We write a lot of songs, work them out to the point where we're happy with both their lyrical and musical content, and always continue to strive for our own sound.
