Soul Nana

Soul Nana possesses a unique quality that quite simply puts him in a category of his own. Asked how to describe his music and the response he gives is “powerful urban pop”. His music ranges from upbeat tracks fuelled by sensuality and creativity to more soulful melodies about lifes ups and downs.

In 1998, Nana discovered his talent for singing by accident when learning how to do music production. Freestyling on the microphone to beats he had created, he quickly began attracting attention from all those around him. Nana swiftly went into writing his own music and aimed to make it a distinctive sound, touching a chord with his audience.

Penning a variety of tracks that are an expression of his journey through life, Nana’s sole purpose is to engage the listener by getting them to empathise with the lyrics of his songs. He says “I have serious moments in my music but life is for enjoying and I want that to come across in my sound.” Love of his faith, love for his family, love for a significant other and love for humankind has influenced much of Nana’s work. The aptly titled “Warrior” is an outstanding creation of innovative beats that is relevant to Nana’s upbringing. Classed as his personal favourite it captures the Western and African influences in his life. He says ”There is not a track in the world it can be compared too.” The listeners are invited to escape reality and enter a story with heavy African tribal sounds that are accompanied by Soul Nana’s deep, powerful voice.

The chorus to Nana’s songs is to him the most important part. Catchy and memorable, they sum up the purpose of his music. “I’ll do” is a prime example of this. A song dedicated to close friends experiencing relationship troubles, Nana’s lyrics are distinctive and touch a chord. He figured “I want to make music that touches people, music that people can feel”. Now his purpose is to get it to the people.

His infectious enthusiasm to live life to the full is clearly shown in his personality. When performing on stage the audience have described Soul Nana as having a “superb presence” and “being in awe of his voice.” He is a performer as well as a singer and captivates his listeners by delivering his music without isolating them. “I’m not trying to be above people, I want to be a part of the people I sing to.”

Soul Nana possesses a real talent that has been acknowledged by all who have heard his music and his hope is that more people will get a chance to grow and explore with him as he continues his journey down the musical road.
