5th Freedom

Founded in late 2004 and based out of Honolulu and Kailua, energetic reggae collective 5th Freedom is a prominent force in Hawaii’s underground scene. With members experienced in a wide variety of musical genres, the fiery four piece weaves a tight new blend of roots music, one uniquely infused with the best elements of jazz, funk, latin, and rock. Live sets are always high energy, featuring funktified guitar playing, fat bass lines, backbeat percussion and versatile vocals. Most importantly, 5th Freedom expands the horizons of the reggae tradition while still staying true to the dance-inducing vibes characteristic of the roots rock sound.

5th Freedom has performed in venues around the island of Oahu and shared the stage with other local favorites such as Piss Poor Excuse, Black Square, Pimpbot, Melodious Solutions, and Kapena. In the summer of 2005, the band released its self-titled debut album which received praise from Hawaiian audiences as well as underground music critics. (To request a copy, send a message)

Since then, the band has continued to grow, producing more infectious material, collaborating with other musicians, and exploring new possibilities in reggae music. While currently on hiatus, 5th Freedom is planning a release of a new EP and supporting tours around the Hawaiian Islands and the West Coast.
