Somegirl

Somegirl formed in the fall of 2000 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Stephen Mork, an electronic musician of some 10 years, placed an ad for a female vocalist looking to form a songwriting duo. Kristin Buckman responded and in short-order Somegirl was formed. After a dozen or so songs were written and a handful of local shows were played, a friend suggested that a demo CD should be sent to A Different Drum (ADD) America's No.1 Synthpop label. In the summer of 2001 Somegirl was offered a contract by ADD, so they went to work completing songwriting for the CD and rerecording the material at the local studio, Otherworld Recording. Their debut CD, Ive Been Known to be Completely Wrong, was released in the fall of 2002, a blend of William Orbit and Hooverphonic.



It is here that the Somegirl story takes a twist. On the eve of the release, Kristin decided to leave the band and move to the west coast of the United States. Without a singer to support the CD, Steve decided to take a break and focus on production and remix work.

Fast-forward to the summer of 2003 where Steve decided to find a new singer and begin work on the second Somegirl CD. Another ad was placed in the same local paper and this time Amanda Cruz was chosen to be the vocalist after several meetings and auditions. Adding a darker, more seductive pop voice to Steve's electronics, the new duo immediately began writing recording new material. Somegirls second full-length release, She's Full of Secrets, was released in June of 2005 with the first single, Feel Free, being released in March of the same year.



Much like the first go round, Somegirl V2 was short-circuited shortly after the She's Full of Secrets release. After playing one show in Madison, WI, and the annual A Different Drum festival, SLC 2K5, in September of 05, the following announcement was made: November 2005 -- It is with regrets that Somegirl announces that, after a two-year working relationship, Steve and Amanda will no longer be working together. Citing only "personal reasons" Steve is currently auditioning new vocalists while Amanda is "fly'n solo."



The show that Steve and Amanda played in Madison turned out to be a fateful one. Endless Blue was on the bill in addition to Somegirl and a fast friendship was formed and a common musical outlook affirmed between Steve and EBs Nick and Laura. In early February, 2006 Laura from EB officially took on the lead vocalist duty in Somegirl. She is no stranger to the lead vocal position having worked with a number of bands writing and recording music and bringing experience and maturity to the band. Somegirl V3 is currently writing and recording material for their third full-length release which is scheduled for a 2007 release through ADD.
