Spirit & Truth was founded in 1999 by Jared B. Elston. God placed in his heart a vision of a praise and worship oriented group to minister to His people through song. After much prayer and direction, the ministry was born. They have been ministering and praising God through song for 6 years and counting!
The main goal of Spirit & Truth is to minister God's Word in song in such a way as to enable people to have a real and genuine life-changing encounter with the Spirit of God and also to break the barriers and stereotypes of what "praise and worship" is. Spirit & Truth continues to challenge people's general perception by demonstrating that praise and worship is about the message not the style. This is apparent by their usage of several different genres of music including Rap, Hip-Hop, contemporary R&B and Latin styles in their music.
After ministering at different concerts and churches in 2000 and 2001, On November 23rd, 2002, Spirit & Truth headlined a concert of their own entitled "Keep It On The.D.L.O.W." Out of that concert was born Spirit & Truth's debut release on compact disc: Spirit & Truth: D.L.O.W. Different Level Of Worship. True to their form, the C.D. was an eclectic blend of different styles of music all united to praise and worship God! It included the crowd favorite "Give God the Praise", old time favorite with a latin twist, "You Are Awesome", the contemplative and moving ballad, "Stand In Awe", as well as the explosive Hip-Hop remix to Give God the Praise, "GGTP!"
Since that release Spirit and Truth has continued to minister at various venues throughout the community. They have also received awards for participating in the Crop Walk which is an annual event to raise money for world hunger and for their contribution to the California State University Fresno Gospel Choir class. They have been a blessing to many churches and organizations throughout the San Joaquin Valley including the cities of Bakersfield, Merced, and Visalia to name a few. At the annual Black Expo in Fresno in 2005, Spirit and Truth had the privilege of opening for the legendary Andrae Crouch and the incomparable Howard Hewitt over a two day period, and added to their list of accomplishments by opening for the Christian group Out of Eden at the popular UrbanFest in Oakland California! They capped their year by participating in the 2005 Christian Music Awards hosted in Fresno where they garnered 3rd place honors and a $3000 cash prize as a result! Not content with that accomplishment, then entered a second time in 2006 and walked away with 2nd place honors which earned them a $5,000 cash prize!
In 2006, much to the delight of their fans, Spirit & Truth went back into the lab, crafting another collection of uplifting and exciting music entitled Praiseology! With a myriad of different styles, this is sure to satiate even the heartiest music lover's appetite for gospel music, the release was a definite success being reviewed by Encore Gospel Magazine!
Since that release, they have added to their resume opening for Kelly Price and Tonex and members of the group having the opportunity to share the stage with Tye Tribbett, Martha Munizzi, Joann Rosario, Jaci Velasquez, Matthew West, and Bethany Dillon to name a few.
Their versatility and gift from God has them currently working on yet another album simply entitled "John 4:23." If their previous releases are any indication fans can expect even more versatility and stirring lyrics and smooth harmonies that have come to define these young people!
