Smash The Statues, started in 2003, is a Dutch hardcore punkband from Nijmegen and Utrecht that plays hardcorepunk in the vein of bands like Rise Against, Strike Anywhere, I-Spy and Propagandhi. Smash The Statues released their first demo CD in 2003 containing 4 songs. The demo was well received in magazines and e-zines and got the band a lot of shows. In 2005 the band recorded their first full length album “Against The Stream”. The album was released in February 2006 by Angry Youth Records. Good reviews generated more shows and paved the way for European tours to the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Sweden and Norway.
In 2008 the band returned to Die Tonmeisterei studio in Oldenburg (Germany) to record a new record. “When Fear Is All Around Us” was released in December 2008 by Shield Recordings on CD and LP. This record was also well received and gave the band new opportunities to tour all over Europe again, this time including Switzerland, Italy, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Poland too.
Smash The Statues played in famous Dutch venues as Melkweg, 013, Doornroosje, Dynamo, W2 and played festivals like De Valkhof Affaire in Nijmegen and Trashfest in Hoogeveen. The band played with bands like Propagandhi, Strike Anywhere, Strung Out, Beatsteaks, Against All Authority, Venerea and Modern Life Is War.
