“IT SOUNDED LIKE I GOT HIT BY A FUCKING TRAIN…”
…isn’t the typical accolade given to an unknown band showing up with a small mountain of gear just to open a show – but this band would have it no other way.
Blending a David Lynch-like paranoia with the dissonant haze of scarlet fever, Sleepcomesdown create a sound likened not only to train collision, but a hellish interpretation of Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” as well.
With a growing reputation for a live set that packs as much reverb, strobe light and controlled chaos in a 30 min. set as possible, the Milwaukee quintet adhere to a D.I.Y. spirit that not only includes booking their own shows, but also building their own recording space or creating and screen printing all of their own artwork.
Recorded in 2008 by the band and longtime co-conspirator Matt Miller in the band’s own practice space, Vapor Kicks is the aural equivalent of Polaroid taken of a band continuously evolving. As you read this, work is nearing completion on a follow up recording entirely by the band without the aid of prying eyes.
Stay tuned…
