Sledge

Sledge is more than a rapper and performer. He is a true writer and, given his lyric ability and dynamic voice, listening to any track of his just once is simply not enough.



Having adopted the mindset that smart lyrics and catchiness are not mutually exclusive in song-making, Sledge writes to help others believe the same. Through music, Sledge seeks to attract and accommodate an audience that can appreciate the layers of his writing, and also works to conjure a tune that can be appreciated by the masses.



This desire to progress hip-hop music culminated in the title of his upcoming LP “Pencil Pusher.” So named because Sledge is promoting well-written material as a means push rap music forward.



Sledge began weaving poetic verses at the age of 12. As the years passed he continually improved his craft with practice, exposure, and new concepts. Upon graduating from Columbia, Sledge distinguished himself amid the Detroit hip-hop scene with the release of his first album “Artnicity, Vol. 1” in March 2008. Released as a marketing vehicle for the promotion of Sledge’s clothing line Artnicity (http://www.artnicity.com), “Vol. 1” displayed Sledge's versatility musically, and proved Sledge is worthy of the title "Lyricist Among Rappers."



Having garnered momentum with the release of his first album, Sledge will be releasing “Pencil Pusher” in September 2010. The album features production from Petey Green, a well-noted producer from Detroit, as well as production from TrackPros out of Philadelphia. Many of the songs feature Sledge singing as well as rapping, and although each song may be different stylistically, one common trait remains: good lyrics.



In the same way that peeling an orange isn’t the essence of eating the fruit, listening to the beat and hook of one of Sledge’s songs is not enough to understand the message. When one listens to a song by Sledge, one feels the ambition, desire, and drive within him. Here is a rapper and lyricist who can make his audience want what he wants and feel what he feels by the end of a verse. Everywhere he performs, the crowd makes him their new favorite. Subsequently, the only people who are not fans of Sledge’s music are those who haven’t heard him; At least not yet.
