BIO

One of the most endearing qualities about Skip Ewing is his deep aspiration to touch the hearts of others with truth, honesty, and real understanding. He’ll tell you that it is his practice to endeavor to be approachable, and to maintain intimacy and connection with those he knows and loves. He feels much the same about those who, as he says, “gift” him their attention and support — lovers of his music, writing, and voice. We wanted him to write his own bio (he is a writer after all), but this is what he had to say.

"To tell You the truth, i'm not big on talking about my own accomplishments. i'd much rather talk about the accomplishments of others, or those actions and ideas with the potential to transform suffering and fear. Still, i am grateful that others wish to know more about me as a person, as an artist, and as a writer."

As well as being what some have called one of the most expressive and talented singer/songwriters in the business, Skip Ewing is certainly at the top of the music industry's list of respected and successful songwriters. His songs have appeared on nearly 300 recordings by major artists and helped to garner the sale of more than 75 million albums.

As a recording artist, Skip's eight solo albums have yielded six hit singles including: "It's You Again," "The Gospel According to Luke," "The Coast of Colorado," "Burnin' a Hole in My Heart," "Your Memory Wins Again," and "It Wasn't His Child." In the late 80s, Skip was voted Best New Artist by R&R and toured extensively with major acts such as: Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Alabama, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Tanya Tucker, and Reba McEntire.

As a lyricist and composer, Skip Ewing has been the recipient of music's top honors, including awards for: Song of the Year, 12 BMI Million Air Awards, The CMA Triple Play Award (three 1 songs within 12 months), a GRAMMY Nomination, a TONY nomination, 25 top ten singles and eleven number 1's, including "i Believe" (Diamond Rio), "You Had Me From Hello" (Kenny Chesney), "Something That We Do" (Clint Black), "Love, Me" (Collin Raye) and "Rebecca Lynn" (Bryan White). The most recent of his cuts, "Every Other Weekend," is Reba McEntire’s latest single release. But here’s the surprise. Skip is singing the official duet single release with her!

In addition to the amazing fan support both he and Reba receive, Skip credits some of the incredible and often unsung ears and hearts in radio for the ground-swell leading to the decision to play "Every Other Weekend," even when it wasn’t going to be the single. Skip’s reaction? “i had no idea this would happen, absolutely no idea. It never would have happened without the belief of so many people. We have some amazing fans in country music, and we have some real hearts in country radio. i feel blessed and fortunate.”

Other artists who have recorded Skip's songs include: Willie Nelson, George Strait, Dave Koz, Andy Williams, Conway Twitty, Wynonna, Keith Urban, Billy Joe Walker Jr., David Kersh, Merle Haggard, Trisha Yearwood, Kenny Chesney, Bryan White, Keith Whitley, Diamond Rio, Collin Raye, Sawyer Brown, Tracy Byrd, Clint Black, Hank Williams Jr., Sammy Kershaw, Shania Twain, Mark Wills, Doug Stone, Randy Travis, Ty Herndon, Joe Diffie, Lorrie Morgan, Alabama, George Jones, Mindy McCready, Tim McGraw, Gene Watson, Ricochet, Kenny Rogers, and many more.

Skip is a divorced father, and will tell You it is one of the most important, fulfilling and profound pursuits of his life. He describes his daughter, Rebecca Lynn (sound familiar?) as "sunshine in a body." As You can imagine, his intimacy with the subject of custody and visitation make for a deep emotional connection with the new single. That connection can be experienced in more than his voice; Skip Ewing lives in much the way he sings and writes, with love, peace, and honesty. Skip says, "i was asked once what i most wanted to be remembered for, my singing or my writing. My answer was "Neither." What i want to be remembered for, if anything, is that i pursued the path of becoming the best person i could become, that i cultivated love, compassion, and understanding. If somewhere in there i made a difference with my actions, be it personal interaction, artistry, the written word, music, or otherwise, then, as Emily Dickinson wrote, "i shall not live in vain."

Skip Ewing - The Hits Vol. 1, the first album in a long-awaited solo album series from Skip Ewing is now available! www.skipewing.com for more details.

[Note from Skip: *You might notice that i write and encourage others to write i’s lowercase, and You’s uppercase. This is a bell of mindfulness to me, a reminder that others should come first. i believe we should amend the English language accordingly. Doing so would ring this bell for the hearts and minds of billions. i invite You to join me! S~]
