Skavolutionary Orchestra is a band on a mission to spread peace, love, and understanding throughout the world. The 9-piece Ska Orchestra features male/female harmony vocals, a swinging Jamaican Ska style rhythm section, and a swelling 4-piece horn section, creating lush, dance-tastic original Ska music. Hailing from San Diego, CA, Skavolutionary Orchestra is really an international band featuring members from across the nation and the world.
Bob Marley, once a teenage Jamaican Ska star, and then a world renowned Reggae superstar, once sang "there's so much trouble in the world." This is as true in the modern age as much as it was during Bob's day. To fight political corruption, financial racketeering, wars of choice, and ecological destruction, Skavolutionary Orchestra's songs call for public unity and consciousness. S/O employs Jamaican Ska as a vehicle for sonic mental liberation across the nation. The International Sound of Skavolutionary Orchestra grows forth from the fallow ground.
Since 2009, Skavolutionary Orchestra has performed throughout San Diego, in well-known venues such as the Belly Up, the Beauty Bar, O'Connell's, UCSD, SDSU, and at open-air festivals in Ocean Beach and Hillcrest. The Skavo's are now in preparations to record their first full-length album, featuring 14 original songs. Look for Skavolutionary Orchestra in a venue near you.
Veteran San Diego Jamaican Ska musician James DHT (formerly composer/arranger/bandleader of San Diego Jamaican Ska bands "the Inspector" and "the Hi-lites") formed Skavolutionary Orchestra in mid 2008. James has previously shared the stage with some of the verified heavyweights of Jamaican music, including the Skatalites, Rico Rodriguez, Owen Gray, Leroy Sibbles, Hepcat, Joey Altruda's All-Stars, the Toasters, the Aggrolites, the Selecter, the Chris Murray Combo, Unsteady, Ocean's Eleven, the Israelites, Go Jimmy Go, Police and Thieves, the Untouchables, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, See-Spot, Mobtown, the Allentons, the Skalars, Yeska, and many more over the years. During all of these experiences, James' conception of the Ska gradually developed into what it is today. Featuring superbly talented players, Skavolutionary Orchestra springs from a strong foundation.
As the great Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae star Desmond Dekker sang "I believe, I believe, it all depends on what you believe." Skavolutionary Orchestra couldn't agree with Desmond more. The Orchestra looks forward to affecting a cultural and spiritual shift toward unity, peace, love, conservation, and cooperation through the powerful musical force of Jamaican Ska.
