Our Manifesta!
It would appear to be that we are an organisation of the post feminist era, culturally orientated, kind of slack, most definitely scrutinised for stealing from the best of the women who came before us. Yes, we are inspired by the 90s Riot Grrrl scene, the radical feminism of the 80s, the punk essence of the late 70s and the spirit of the great social changes that came before all these great empowering creative spurts of life, art and revelation.
Post feminism sucks. We are not a part of it. We are human beings with cunts who exercise our voices; we swiftly move our fingers over some beautiful six string, wrap our steely knuckles around a pair of drum sticks. We are exploring this new world where equal rights have supposedly almost arrived and we are pushing on the door of the mainstream, screaming in the ears of matchstick indie boys. Watch as they all come tumbling down.
Feminism is with us when we need it, when we sing, when we fight for justice in the court room, when our sisters are being subjected to domestic violence, subjected to greater depths of poverty then their single male peers. I believe in a third wave of feminism where women stand up when challenged, say no to convention if they please, and support one another in times of crisis. Most importantly I believe in female expression and the punk rock spirit of the feminist heart. I see through the stereotypes and I fucking laugh at it. We are free women, let’s create, let’s be strong and when we feel some fucker is trying to undermine us lets remember what’s most important: Our independence, our creativity and absolute belief in our self worth.
Go on and buy a second hand guitar, or take up painting. Go and spray paint the appallingly low rape conviction rates somewhere for all to see, burn your bra and tell the world it isn’t over until we are in the public realm, until we are free.
