"OTHER PEOPLE TOLD ME WHO I WAS. I JUST HAD TO LEARN HOW TO BELIEVE IT AND LIVE IT".

-Monika on her blossoming career in music

Award-Winning singer/songwriter Monika (mo-knee-ka) Bourgeois is a Northwest native of creole descent.

After emerging from an unconventional background that

reads like a N.Y. Times Best seller, Monika is forging ahead, focusing on her blossoming career in the Music Industry and taking every step in stride

Her sophomore offering "From the Mind of a Christian Girl", is a private flip through her personal journal. Undoubtedly, Monikas' wordsmithing shines light on areas of life that sometimes seem nonexistent in other faith albums.

"I guess you can call my songwriting style kind of 'Inside-out". I tend to write from a "minds eye" view of Life. If you put Fred Hammond, the India.Arie team (I.A. Simpson, S.Sanders, D. Ramsey, D. Johnson & M. Johnson), BeBe Winans, Peter Gabriel & The Caldwell Plus team in a blender I would probably be your end result!

But vocally, I think the influence of the Winans Sisters (CeCe, Angie & Debbie), Anita Baker and Gladys Knight definitely left their mark on me.

She seems very comfortable in her own skin now, not at all like the young lady who only two years ago had trouble calling herself an 'Artist'.

"You know, I am learning everyday to be greatful for every gift I've been blessed with. The Bible says "Cast not away your confidence," yet I threw mine down the drain a few years ago because situations led me to believe that something was wrong with being "Monika". The awards and opportunities that had come my way were great blessings ( "Most Outstanding Vocalist", Three Rivers Rotary Associtaion, Sue Seed Music Scholarship recipient, 1st Place Liberty Vocal Competition) : It was a wild ride.

Her gift as a songwriter can be heard on the BillboardTop 20 project "Crazy Like Love" by Grammy winning Artist Melvin Williams ,upcoming projects by Kim Stratton, Dub Dis, and on her upcoming release "Line Upon Line", which is the second chapter in the series "From the Mind of a Christian Girl".

After winning the " Throne Room Writing Competition" held by CeCe Winans/Puresprings Gospel, Monika was graced to try her hand at journalism. As a result, she became a contributing writer to the Milwaukee based publication 'Ya Heard Magazine", a Bi-monthly Music Magazine promoting all Genres of Music.

Although shes' been called a one of the music communitys' "Wide Eyed Beauties", shes not one to hide Her markings as a person with Vitiligo. She aims to increase awareness and promote new studies for its research. Monika encourages the campaign of www.VitiligoSupport.org, an organization dedicated to enlightening, encouraging and finding treatments for those whose lives are affected by the mysterious discoloring skin disorder.
