simple. Small name, big sound. Their music spills into your room and fills every corner with lush, beautiful sounds. Add flawless technical prowess, and the deal is sealed: this is new, graceful pop/rock for those with a passion for music and its respective intricacies.
The simple. sound features the layered, borderline-haunting guitar work of Stacy Parrish and Daniel Prevett. Drummer Jeff Romaniuk and bassist Joe Anderson provide solid backing for this power quartet. Parrish's vocals are emotively rich, and range from a tender near-falsetto to a declarative boom. They've been compared to everyone from Coldplay to the Church, but other than fragmented moments of recollection, theirs is an incomparable sound.
The group's new release, "In Perfect Disarray," offers 10 tracks of subtle intensity. It tricks you, this album. Each song begins with a pleasant, intriguing sound; before you know it, you're enveloped in fat, sonic rock. It bats its eyes at you then kicks your ass; quite an exhilarating experience.
Their laid-back, yet commanding presence on-stage draws fans into a dreamy realm. With a live set so tight, simple. make it screamingly obvious they're no strangers to their instruments. These are professionals, and they're happy to have you along for the ride if you can keep up. Aside from a cordial between-song quip from Parrish, they tear through their set list. No flash or banter here; these guys came to play.
Simple? Hardly. Hear for yourself.
"Superior lyrics and displaying all-around excellent musicianship, simple. does not play music that make people dance, they play very dramatic, dreamy Brit-Pop that builds emotions inside a listener….haunting numbers that could give a person chills. The tightness of the four-piece and the power of Parrish's voice to move a crowd…. a plan for success and straightforward dramatic rock 'n' roll, simple. is a band with promise and is poised to head in a different direction than its predecessors."
-Sam Beresky, the Daily Lobo
"Modern pop/rock melodicism is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is deep, artistic, well-thought-out and musically pristine. On the other hand it plays up to mass appeal, can be drowned out by like musicians and rarely breaks new ground.
To play both sides of the sword can prove to be quite difficult and risky. And simple. gracefully tiptoes across this blade in its debut recording by creating airy and grandiose compositions that are both accessible and artistically intriguing.
The production work on "In Perfect Disarray," provided by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Stacy Parrish and his bandmates is downright impeccable. So much so that it's difficult to believe that's not a bed of strings on songs like "Forgive Me" or "As If We Care." The standout track, "Ballad of the Beauty Queen," is a rolling, melodic portrait of skin-deep beauty that is unfortunately shorter than three minutes (radio friendly, but not audiophile friendly).
From beginning to end, the record maintains a level of quiet intensity, marked by a titanium-strength rhythm section that pushes this group to a level that has already been reached by some of the more memorable pop rock groups of the past 10 years, though simple. arrived there in a much more expedient fashion."
- Kevin Hopper, Albuquerque Journal review of "In Perfect Disarray"
"The plain fact of the matter at hand is that simple. have created a sound that's unique. - mystifyingly huge and beautifully ambient at once - and a debut record that stands tall [T]here are few bands in town that can match simple.'s masterful use of swirling, dueling guitars juxtaposed against orgasmic grooves."
- Michael Henningsen, The Weekly Alibi
