Silent Winter is a one man doom metal project, hailing from the darkest depths of Kent (UK). Kevin Lawry is the multi instrumentalist who works under the moniker Silent Winter. His mournful vocals and slow durging riffs create the blackest hymns with moments of relief through emotive acoustic passages.

2005 saw the release of three Silent Winter recordings. A debut demo titled ‘Solemn Verses’ was distributed in February. ‘A Plague to Come’ was released in May described by Zero Tolerance Magazine as ‘highly effective, engaging and emotive doom metal’. November 2005 revealed ‘The Lost Whisper’ which was met with critical acclaim. ZT magazine awarded the EP demo of the month and featured ‘The Angels Mourned’ on their cover cd. They defined the release as ‘true doom magnificence of legendary proportions’. The readers of the magazine voted Silent Winter 9th best unsigned band in their annual readers poll. About ‘The Lost Whisper’, Doom metal.com wrote Kevin had ‘a tragic ability to capture the listener's darkest emotions’.

During early 2006, Kevin recorded what was the darkest Silent Winter recordings so far. Evoking feelings of sorrow, emptiness and unrelenting despair, the demo was suitably titled ‘In Death, I Am’. ‘Monolithic riffs, soul crushing atmosphere’ was how Zero Tolerance magazine described the recordings, echoing the applause from the underground doom metal scene.

After a year away from the metal scene, Silent Winter re-appeared with a promotional CD titled ‘Winter Solitude Ep’ in July 2007. This showcased two new tracks that would be appearing on a full length release Kevin was working on. The new tracks ‘Winter Solitude’ and ‘With Weary Heart’ presented a more introspective song writing approach from Silent Winter. Chris Kee at Zero Tolerance magazine reviewed the EP “Kevin’s unfailing ability to conjure up mountainous doom riffs is undiminished, and the melodies remain as sorrow-filled as ever.”

November 2007 has seen the delivery of the most reflective and diverse album from Silent Winter. Six tracks of colossal doom riffage that drowns you in black lethargy and Kevin’s vocal laments more tortured and sombre than ever weeping through the mix creating the definitive Silent Winter release. ‘The Allure’.
