Singing since she exited her mother's womb is where it all began. Ja'Shayla has been singing and performing since she discovered those powerful vocal chords of hers. Always boisterous and lively, she remains the center of attention and has always embodied a talented and dedicated superstar. Ja'Shayla's aunt has been the most influential family member who pushed her to develop her raw talent into the passionate vocalist and performer that she's become today. Performing and singing is simply what she does! When the music starts playing, she quickly personifies the rhythm with her body and challenges the melody with her sweet vocals. This can only mean that she truly loves what she does and she believes that the only way to get better at the things you enjoy is practice. She is what the music world is missing!
Ja'Shayla began her real education in music when she learned to read sheet music and played the alto saxophone in elementary school. She continued her studies with the tenor sax while doubling as the vocalist for her high school's jazz and marching bands. Because she was always a band member throughout school, the only choirs she had the time to participate in and was so inspired to join were in church. Ja'Shayla found her roots as a singer in church very early on. She was singing solos as young as 4 & 5 years old. She loves Gospel music above all types and she believes it to be the genre with the best voices in the music industry. Ja'Shayla's musical background consists of all types, ranging from Gospel, Soul, Jazz, R&B, Blues, Hip-hop, Raggaeton, Salsa and the list goes on. Versatility is what she is all about, having influences from all over including Ohio, Memphis, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Puerto Rico, New York, etc. In her many years of studying and adoring music, she's followed and imitated the best which includes Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Mariah Carey, Kim Burrell, Yolanda Adams, Aretha Franklin and more.
Ja'Shayla has performed with Anthony Hamilton at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and at the Apollo for P. Diddy. She was a regular performer for Penn State sporting events and fundraisers. She's reached audiences in various talent shows in the U.S., the Miss Teen Ohio Pageant, Miss Black Penn State Pageant, and Miss Latina Penn State Pageant just to name a few. Now, as Ja'Shayla records her upcoming album, expect to see her performing at venues in the NYC area and beyond.
