December 12 Live Set with MachineDrum and 303 at the Kava Lounge in San Diego.
This is the set I proposed to Katy Rokit at one of our little TekFunk parties at the Kava Lounge. towards the end, by plugging in robotic sounds into the MachineDrum to sound out the words "Katy Rokit, Will You Marry Me?"
Nothing like being with all of our TekFunk friends and fans when you propose to the coolest chick on Earth!

It all started in the Bay Area in the late 80's.hopping in a car, calling the Static Line, driving to the record store, grabbing the fluorescent yellow paper flyer with the directions, and then driving somewhere with windows down and ears tuned for the beat. Back then, everything was 140bpm, full on acid and other Roland goodness, with samples being played back by boom box cassette decks. It was magic. We didn't even call it raving yetwe just called it a 'warehouse party'.because that's what they were.a bunch of kids bringing a positive attitude showing up to do ONE thing: Dance.
We'd dance from midnight till the sun came up. And then we'd turn the PA up even louder so that everybody driving away could hear the beats. So that the people breaking down and cleaning up could still dance if they wanted to. The music was always the first thing to get set up. And the last to get unplugged. Nothing else mattered.
From there, I found myself at an Aphex Twin / Moby concert in Chicago in 1990, and I've never quite gotten the sound of a low pass filter sweeping down out of my head since then. I love synthesizers, and I'm hopelessly in love with electronica.
I'm also a hacker. A certified ethical one at that. and for my day job, well, let's just say I get to do really fun things and i get paid for it. Think getting paid to break systems and fix them again. Just like I do with synthesizers, cars, and well, myself even.
The Blues.Miles, or Buddy Guy. I blow the horn, too, but I find it hard to do anything with it with electronica that wasn't already accomplished and discoverd on Doo Bop. So I'm happy just putting the needle on that groove when I play.
In the end, life is a short dance in the sun. And if you're really lucky, you've already been dancing all night long waiting for it to come up. If House is a feeling, then surely Techno is the central nervous system.
I make music because that's what I know God wants me to do. It's the ONLY thing I know he wants me to do. Everything else is just to support that mission. Even my 'challenging day job' is there so that by the time i get home, i'm ready to wade in a sea of audio and midi cables again. There is no sexier place on earth than the studio. When I'm there, I'm alive.breathing again.puns fly out of my mouth, I whisper sexy things in my wife's ear, and the bass rattles the fluorescent lights above. I know those cause noise in my signal chains. but lest I never forget. I make Techno, after all.
