Shadow of Soul

Gli Shadow of Soul nascono nel 1998 a Vibo Valentia dalla fusione di due band che allora militavano nel panorama metal cittadino Masterdoom e Unscriptural.

Dopo un anno passato a fare esperienze live nei piccoli festival locali e nelle scuole vibonesi la band va in studio e autoproduce il suo primo lavoro: una demo composta da quattro tracce dal titolo “Whisper”. Intanto l’ attività live degli Shadow of Soul andava sempre più intensificandosi senza trascurare l’aspetto che riguarda la produzione: così nel 1999 entra di nuovo in studio per registrare la sua seconda demo intitolata “Mystic” composta da tre brani.

Proprio grazie a quest’ ultimo lavoro il 5-pieces ottiene un contratto discografico con una casa italiana (Videoradio) per la quale esce il primo full-length della band dal titolo “Whisper from a Shadow” (2001).

Dopo l’ uscita del disco e molte esibizioni live la band subisce numerosi cambi di line-up. Nell’ autunno del 2002 entra nella scuderia degli Shadow of soul il chitarrista Rocco Spinoso seguito dal bassista Carlo Capocasale che insieme a Francesco Valente (voce) e Andrea Iorfino (batteria) costituiscono l’ attuale line-up del combo calabro. Con questa formazione la band torna a suonare live e a riscuotere un ottimo consenso di pubblico che li porterà a suonare in molti concerti della regione e anche con band di rilievo (Vision Divine). Alla fine dell’ estate 2006 gli “Shadows” entrano nei Soundfarm studios di Gianlucà Molè (Glacial Fear) di Catanzaro per registrare il loro (attualmente) ultimo lavoro dal titolo “The Hidden Memories”: un EP composto da 5 brani.

Successivamente date le scelte di Rocco Spinoso di ampliare il suo bagaglio musicale , studiando composizione in alcuni rinomati college americani, gli Shadow of Soul decidono di far prendere parte al loro progetto il chitarrista Claudio Maglia, che sin da subito dimostra interesse per la band partecipando attivamente alla stesura dei nuovi brani arricchendo ulteriormente il sound del combo.Attualmente gli Shadow of Soul si trovano alle prese con la registrazione di un nuovo promo, che verrà ultimato per questa primavera e si sta portando a termine la composizione degli ultimi brani che dovranno formare il loro prossimo Full-Lenght previsto per dicembre 2010.



E’ difficile dare una denominazione al genere proposto dagli Shadow of Soul: è una sorta di heavy metal dalle tinte classiche contaminato da molte sfaccettature del genere stesso (prog, power, death, black ecc.)

Shadow of Soul was born in the 1998 in Vibo Valentia by the fusion between two bands, Masterdoom and Unscriptural.

After a year spent for live experiencies, the band went to the studios for its first demo self produced , entitled “Whisper” containing four songs. At the same time the live activity of the band goes on but the members don’t forget the producing side of the project: in the 1999 the band backs in studio again to record the second demo “Mystic”, a three tracks job.

And by this last release the “Shadows” obtain a contract with an Italian label (Videoradio) and give life to the first full-length of the band “Whisper from a shadow” (2001).

After the release and many live shows, the band undergoes various line-up change . In the autumn 2002 the guitar player Rocco Spinoso enters in the band followed by Carlo Capocasale at the bass, that with Francesco Valente(vocals) and Andrea Iorfino(drums) complete the calabrian combo.

With this line-up the band comes on stage again with good performances near important bands (Vision Divine , Glacial Fear).

At the end of the summer 2006 they enter in the Soundfarm studios to record and self-produce the last product called “The Hidden Memories”, an EP with 5 tracks.

After that, due to the Rocco Spinoso's choises to study music in the States, Shadow of Soul decided to let run in their own project the young-skilled guitar player Claudio Maglia, that soon shown interest that pushed him to take part in the songwriting , giving his contribute and enriching Shadow of Soul 's sound. Actually Shadow of Soul are ready to record the new promo, it will be out soon,and the new Full-Lenght out in december 2010.

It’s not easy to find a right kind of heavy metal to define the music played by Shadow of Soul: a kind of heavy metal tainted by all the sides of heavy metal itself (prog,power,death, thrash,black etc.)
