Shaa'ir, which translated directly from Urdu to English means "poet", understood sound long before she had the mind to grasp language. At six months old she was singing into a tape deck recorder. At seven years old, she was mimicking Lata Mangeshkar's Bollywood hits at family get-togethers. And by sixteen years of age, she had made her New York debut, singing at the acclaimed Carnegie Hall. Since then she has graced the New York stage in such shows as "Fanny", Hair, and Cabaret. Hungry for expression and creative movement, Shaa'ir frequented collaborative meetings of minds in such genres of spoken word, improv, and MC'ing. It was here she found a home in song-writing. With a strong emphasis on poetics and lyricism, Shaa'ir's music bends the popular music rubric while still respecting the trends of now. Shaa'ir's raw style is refreshing and honest--"My music is for every single person out there who is, at any given moment, desperately trying to be their best. Because, really we all are. No one says, 'Hey, cool, it's a nice day out! I'd like to be a shitty person today'! So, yeah, we're really not all that different. There is a line running through all of us."
