Sergio Altamura - Blu (Imaginary Roads Music, 2004)
Sergio Altamura's solo acoustic guitar record "Blu", was recorded at Imaginary Road Studios by Will Ackerman: eminent guitar player and founder of the historical Windham Hill Records.
Composed by Sergio Altamura, "Blu" is a 12 track album, which exceeds preconceived contemporary limits of instrumental music for acoustic guitar; with percussion, loops, mechanical fans, intoxicating vocals and other guitars. This exploration of timbre and sound research was already present in the previous projects of the Ark Ensemble quartet.
In this album Sergio Altamura performs on a 12-string guitar, a tenor and a baritone, along with the electronic loops, voice and percussions.
Ackerman plays, an acoustic guitar in the track "Before The Sea" and a parlour guitar in "The Name Of The Rose;" which Ackerman also co-wrote. Noah Wilding lends his voice, and Ackerman his guitar in "Before The Sea."

.Sergio Altamura [ electro-acoustic guitar - ambient/experimental ]
In a long career which began in 1985 as a teenager member of a rock band, Sergio has experimented with almost everything. During the '90s Sergio focuses his work on steel-string guitar, performing live in Italy and Europe; in 1998 works on the Ark Ensemble project, an Italian modern quartet exploring the sound possibilities of each instrument of the group. His first solo guitar album, Blu, was produced in 2004 by the Grammy winner and founder of Windham Hill Records William Ackerman; his new solo project, Aria Meccanica (CandyRat Records, 2009) is a conceptual work—a fascinating trip into all the possible sonorities created on the guitar: loops, vocals, percussion, objects, and live electronics are wisely melded into a poetic vision.
Graduated at D.A.M.S. of Bologna (Italy) with a thesis of music semiology on music for acoustic guitar, Sergio has worked as composer and arranger for theatre shows, movies and documentaries, and as a teacher leading masterclass about techniques for the contemporary acoustic guitar.
Among his latest project, the new Italian acoustic guitar trio Guitar Republic, with Stefano Barone and Pino Forastiere.
Sergio was born in Molfetta (Bari, Italy); he lives in Bologna (Italy).
