Kool Kat Music review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!! What a fabulous find! Are you all ready for this??? You just gotta check out all of the unbelievable, sugar-filled pop ingredients that went into this charming, extremely special, intoxicating pop cocktail outta Missoula, Montana - healthy heapings of Jellyfish, Jason Falkner, and Roger Manning, a pinch of Beach Boys, a smidgen of Paul McCartney, a teaspoon of ELO, a dash of Supertramp, a drop of Jackdaw4, and tiny jiggers of Supertramp, The Nines, Ben Folds and Gabe Dixon! And there's lots more where that came from! Shaken, not stirred for sure! It's all in there - honest! Chock full of guitars, pianos, harmonies, and everything but the kitchen sink musical accompaniment! All you could ever want in a pure pop release! "They deliver happy triumphant music that washes over you in waves of psychedelia, catchy lines and poppy hooks! Sparkly, with the sugar-pop style of Beatles meets Beach Boys meets Gene Pitney!" The Missoula Independent "An 11-track joyfest of hum-along choruses and finger-snapping verses. Anyone who ever fell in love with the Beach Boys' 'Kokomo' will find a second calling in 'Sunny Pasadena' and 'Awfully Nice', two songs you'll swear you've heard before. 'Rose' drifts along under the halo of ELO, pivoting at a cleverly written chorus that will stick in your ear from the moment you first hear it! Is there anything original here? Not exactly, but when it comes to great pop music, that's the wrong question to ask. The brilliance of songwriter Schmed Maynes lies in his ability to echo some of the greatest songwriters of the past generation without copying any of them. That's a secret power indeed, and one that's worth indulging again and again!" The Missoulian "Just what are these 'secret powers' that these guys weild that have my head in such a spin? The sugar rush is just way too much for me! I gotta lie down! I'm drunk on this stuff! It's almost too good to be legal! I might be movin' to Montana soon" - Max Humphries Steady there Max! You think we like it? You betcha! Can't say enough about this one! Not a "secret" anymore! GREAT!!!!!

Not Lame Records review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A FIND! Walk with me a bit here: Imagine a mixture of the first Jellyfish, Bleu Ben Folds Five(the good stuff), ELO, Billy Joel, Elton John and you have an idea of the Secret Powers. Fabulous, gripping pop that is just FUN but still substantial and far from the ephemeral. It is like Secret Powers landed from out of nowhere - a perfect pop universe heretofore undiscovered, unknown. Mark my words: the arrival of Secret Powers to the world of power pop fans is a date to mark for they are a band with great potential to grow into a powerfully influential one.

For now, we have "Explorers Of The Polar Eclipse" that is a fully realized vision of lush pop with an interesting twist at every turn - if you are looking for cookie cutter pop this is not going to be your choice from the menu here. All 11 songs are highly texture in a way that are a balm to the ole pop senses. Bouncy hooky, enchanting melodies ride proudly atop the not-so-simple arrangements, letting the pop shine clearly, without hesitation. It is just song-after-song of "Wow!" moments with huge payoff at the end of each one.

"Nearly every influence that comes to bear on the music of Secret Powers can be heard in one song, "Jenny" the intro echoes the big gestures of Elton John, then comes a funky keyboard groove that could have been ripped from a mid-70s Stevie Wonder session. The chorus is straight from a Ben Folds record in the bridge, The Beatles show up in a call-and-response harmonies and driving piano riff. So it goes with the rest of the album, an 11 track joyfest of hum-along choruses and finger-snapping versesis there anything original here? No exactly; but when it comes to great pop music, that is the wrong question to ask."-Missoulian. Needless to say, pretty much Massively Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
