Born in Newark, New Jersey, Sativa aspired to be an emcee as early as nine years. Her precocious zeal was not a surprise as she is the first-born grandaughter of funk legend George Clinton, and (as he always says) "funk is the dna of hip-hop". Sativa was so ready for the stage that George put her on the road rapping for Parliament/Funkadelic at age16. She hit the ground running starting her performance career doing high profile tours such as Lollapalooza and Smokin' Grooves. Still a teenager, Sativa also began writing and recording. Steadily stacking material over the years and emanating a definitive dedication to her craft grabbed the attention of her grandfather and he began producing her. Sativa isn't a stranger to the business side often performing administrative duties for Parliament/Funkadelic (this being as reflective of her many dimensions as her style). As a female rapper, Sativa has the rare balance of power, sexuality, street, consciousness, fun, philosophy and constantly addresses her female audience with messages of self-sufficiency, empowerment, and respect. Her influences are Scarface, The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Lil' Kim, MC Lyte, Wu-Tang Clan, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, and of course George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic. Sativa doesn't limit herself to writing rhymes, she also writes hooks. Her recent T.V. gracings include 2004's Grammy's and BET's 25 Strong Silver Anniversary Special, On Demand's current airing of George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic Live at Montreaux 2004, and her interview with Russell Morse from MTV's "I'm from Rolling Stone" backstage at her Roskilde Festival performance. Presently in the lab, the world can expect an album from Sativa soon.
