This corn-fed Chicago region rat lays down the groove, and craft's the mix just right. With his custom hybrid bass/guitar in hand, Sam Cook is stretching the boundaries of the guitar and popular music, embracing a classic sound that is always moving forward.
Sam started as a regular guitarist, than later took up the double-bass for an extended tonal palette. After listening to a Charlie Hunter album, Sam saw a glimpse into the future. Lacking the funds to purchase a guitar made by Ralph Novax, Sam replaced the low E and A strings on his acoustic/electric Ovation with bass strings. Sam used this instrument to lay down the simultaneous bass lines and guitar licks he needed to accompany his vocal for live solo performances.
The growing desire for a fan fretted instrument with more bass and guitar strings and multiple outputs drove Sam to roll up his sleaves and design his own. Spend less time in the woodshed and more in the workshop, he finally crafted an instrument that continues to evolve with his musical prowess. This grand guitar has become the staple on stage and in the studio holding down both the lead and accompanying parts at the same time!
Sam Cook is in the process of destroying boundaries of musical segregation. Sam can be experienced either solo or with a full band. A band of musicians from all walks of life who share the common goal: the groove.
Anything worth doing can be done.
