Ask quadruple threat (emcee, singer, songwriter, producer) Saint Mic the Archangel what hip hop is to him; His first answer would be 'dead' but, after expressing his disdain for present hip hop representation, it's clearly evident that hip hop is Saint Mic's Savior, life and purpose in it. Omaha, NE native Saint Mic born Michael Pointer Jr. has been considered one of the most versatile, aggressive, and lyrically creative artists in his area, and he accredits his creative success to his early upbringing in music. "Like most musicians, it all started in the church for me." Grandson of a preacher, choir director, and son of a phenomenal singer, music is an inevitable endeavor for this artist.
Saint Mic's has been singing since his early childhood, as previously mentioned, but didn't start to experiment with hip hop until he was 15 years old and even then made quite the impact amongst his peers locally. "He's been in the top bracket of local rap artist since he started, and that's not something many artist around here can say.", says longtime audio engineer and friend John James of TightCuts Productions. At the young age of 15, Saint Mic started his rap career like most hip hop artist in street battles and performing at school and social events. Although Saint Mic started rapping at the age of 15, he didn't really take his career to a serious level until the age of 18 when he moved to Texas due to some legal issues he became involved with. While in Texas in 2001, Saint Mic joined a hip hop experimental band known as FDAP, while assisting his uncle (Bones: guitarist for infamous Dallas rap metal band Undeniable) on their debut promo tour. During Saint Mic's involvement with FDAP, he created a huge buzz for himself in Dallas/Ft. Worth, however the aforementioned legal issues caught up with the artist June of 2001. These "issues" led to a 'not so short' Federal prison sentence at age 18 for Conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. When asked about his incarceration, Saint Mic simply replied, "It's most unfortunate that we as hip hop artists "glamorize" such destructive paths of living. I'm not proud of what I did; I'm proud of overcoming such an obstacle without involving anyone else, and most importantly learning from my mistakes." In September 2006, Saint Mic was released to his home town equipped with two college degrees, and a genuine eagerness to pick up where he left off in Texas.
Now back in his hometown, Saint Mic released his debut mixtape M16 vol. 1 in August 2007 which solidified his rank in local hip hop and generated a buzz still evident to this day. Saint Mic has performed all over Omaha, NE and surrounding areas (with his original band Ill Culture Clique whom he's done music with since junior high) promoting his debut mixtape. Saint Mic is now composing a 'SuperGroup' known as All Pro Hip Hop show, and local promo tour titled "Cabin Fever" that he's using to promote sequel mixtape M16A1 'The Second Coming', while recording his debut album titled "Legacy". In only three years Saint Mic is establishing himself as a solid package in the music industry, and making his mark in the local music scene showing artist and fans that consistency, versatility, and his ability to relay a message are how he earned his wings.
