Ruslana In Depth
Ruslana's new project takes us into a future city which experiences a global energy crisis, far more threatening than lack of oil and gas. The inhabitants of the synthetic city are lacking their will for life, their energy of the heart the fuel for the people.
The project is based on the science fiction novel "Wild Energy.Lana" of Ukrainian authors Sergiy and Maryna Diachenko. The main character of the novel, Lana, blond-haired and blue-eyed girl from a synthetic city, is dependent on regular energy plug in. One day she decides to get out of this routine and to the world of real life.
Notwithstanding the fiction character of the plot, it contains allegories, relevant for our time. According to Ruslana, a heart energy crisis is very likely to take over our society, if creative initiatives are not developed and supported. Ruslana's Wild Energy Project challenges the cultural degeneration, the "Energy Ice Age" of the present.
Wild Energy will cover the singer's whole upcomming creative year. Gradually singles, videos, album, a future fantasy-show, series of comics, social projects, a fashion collection and other elements will be presented.
New Ways:
With her current project Ruslana persues new ways which no-one has walked . Wild Energy combines the art of music and video production, literature and social commitment in an extraordinary way with no precident. After publishing the novel "Wild Energy-Lana", the second element, the Wild Energy single and video movie centers around main character Lana who is desperately trying to get out of the synthetic world. The video features sequences of amazing trick effects, dangerous stunts and stunning flights. Another brand new approach is her new music style which has transformed into a futuristic, electronic sound with no ethnic samples. It includes its very own unique elements creating a great futuristic and cinematic atmosphere.
Early landmarks:
Ruslana was born in Lviv, a regional center in Western Ukraine. Since she was four years old, she studied at an Experimental Music School and sang in a band. The microphone was her first toy. She learnt notes earlier than letters. Her favourite childhood memories are connected to her stage experiences. It was then when it was determined for sure that she will dedicate all of her life to music. When Ruslana graduated from the Conservatory she obtained two educational qualifications in the field of music as a piano player and a symphonic orchestra conductor. It was only a question of time, that she would become a very successful singer.
The beginning of Ruslanas star career started with winning the international song festival Slovianskyj Bazar in Vitebsk, Belorus in 1996. The following years Ruslana received over 40 awards within Ukraine including several times Person of the Year, Singer of the Year, Project of the Year.
Spectacular victory:
In her home country Ruslana was already an acclaimed star, when the international breakthrough came with her spectacular victory at the Eurovision song Contest in Istanbul in May 2004. Within a few days the singer from Ukraine became known to an audience of a billion people. The unique sound, her enormous potential, brilliant ideas, her endless energy and deep sencerity were the keys to her success.
Ruslana's winning song Wild Dances was absolutely unique regarding music, performance and costumes. The style can be called 'drive-ethno-dance', a combination of ethnic sounds of the mountain people of the Hutsuls with modern rock, pop and dance elements. For her Wild Dances Project Ruslana conducted expeditions to the Carpathian mountains discovering rhythms, dances and costumes of the ancient culture of the mountains which were on the brink to being forgotten and integrated them into a modern show, thus preserving the cultural heritage.
Her Wild Dances album, written and produced by herself, receiving three times platinum in Ukraine. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest it was raining international awards, including World Music Awards in Los-Angeles in 2004 and in spring 2006 Wild Dances was elected the best Eurovision song ever by a German TV internet poll.
Affair of the heart:
The lady in the warrior outfit has got the heart in the right place. Ruslana charity projects are legend. Being appointed Good Will Ambassador of Ukraine by the UNICEF Ruslana passionately combats trafficking in human beings. She commits herself for the preservation of Ukrainian castles and the national cultural heritage. The welfare of sick children and orphans is her particular affair of the heart. Within the frames of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv she gave a big charity concert for children suffering from the consequences of the Chornobyl tragedy. Ruslana's latest charity project with German rock star Peter Maffay "Children of Sping" also will benefit Chornobyl children.
Supporting democratic processes:
Ruslana actively supported the democratic processes in Ukraine in winter 2004/2005 and in in spring 2006 she was elected Member of Ukrainian Parliament. The main issues she intends to push in politics are cultural issues, the Euro-integration of Ukraine and youth politics.
Multitalent:
Ruslana is not an artificially created product neither on a musical, nor social nor political level. She is real. She is the producer of her own success. Her notebooks contain hundreds of unbelievably creative ideas, she is a composer and arranger, a professional conductor and piano player. She even writes scripts for her video clips and edits them, as well as is directly involved in developing costumes, decorations, light and pyrotechnical schemes and effects. She is a charismatic leader, the main engine and axis of the big team that is working behind the brand name 'Ruslana'.
And with all this, she is in the first place a singer with a tremendous talent, and an artist with powerful energy that ignites overfilled stadiums. Ability to work, persistence and fortitude are not elements of an image, they are the essence of Ruslana, her main trump cards.
