RUBIKON BIO:

An amalgam of styles and influences, Rubikon is a hard rock band that sounds progressive yet familiar at the same time. Setting richly melodic vocal harmonies against walls of metallic noise and spacey atmospherics, Rubikon's unique songwriting and live show have armed the band with an intensely loyal fan base that has spread throughout the Northeast and across the country. Known for their powerful live performances, the Boston foursome have gained significant recognition and exposure playing with such contemporaries as Staind, Sevendust, Nonpoint, Cave In, Lacuna Coil, Ill Niño, Candiria, Shadows Fall and many more since they first began playing together in late 2001.

After playing together for two years in a previous group, the instrumental part of the band – Yonze (guitar/vocals), Hughie (bass/vocals) and The Duke (drums/vocals) - met Jae (lead vocals) who was singing in another local band. Following a hushed rehearsal, all four musicians emerged convinced that they had tapped into something undeniable and previously unattained in their current incarnations. That rehearsal gave way to one path: Jae quitting his band and the four musicians immediately focusing on the group that would soon become Rubikon.

Two months after that initial rehearsal, Rubikon entered a Boston studio to record their first EP with producer Ted Paduck (Aerosmith, Run-DMC, Busta Rhymes). The “Radio Shack EP” helped gain Rubikon numerous shows and recognition in the Northeast and by mid-2002, the band sold out of their initial pressing. Rubikon decided to lay down their next batch of songs down with Sir Matthew Ellard (Dave Navarro, Ice Cube, Converge), emerging with their “Awaken” EP, which saw the band refine their sound while continuing to win over an increasing number of intensely loyal fans. In late 2003, with a new and highly-evolved group of tunes such as “Severance,” “Trapdoor” and “3 Months Left” in their arsenal, Rubikon enlisted producer Marc Jordan (Milla Jovovich, The October) and co-producer Andy Sands (The Hums, numerous film soundtracks) to man the boards at NYC’s acclaimed Cutting Room for the recording of their first full-length release. Their debut album, “The Hollow Men,” was released in October 2004 through Category 5 Music and has received strong support by fans, critics and radio alike.

After touring the country a few times, kicking some asses and taking a few names along the way, Rubikon has recently undergone something of a transformation. In Fall '05, Jae decided to leave the band to pursue other musical interests (rumorsquash - it's 100% cool); the rest of the guys have been writing more technically complex and aggressive tunes. In early 2006, Josh McLaughlin (formerly of DonnyBrook and Red Cloud Revival) joined the fold on vocals. That's him in the upper left in that pic up above here. The band is planning on a late May/early June recording session to capture this new music, and some live shows are sure to follow.
