Ron Etheridge is a singer/songwriter born and raised in the heart of the Delta in Greenville, Mississippi. Some people compare his sound to the blues, others hear folk, fans have even called it funky. “Roots inspired folk music, or Americana,” is how Etheridge describes his music. No matter what comparisons are made with Etheridge’s style one phrase resounds: “he’s got soul!” Etheridge began his musical journey in earnest at the age of 14 when he received his first guitar from his mother. From that point on, Etheridge earned his vocal and guitar chops by listening to the many blues artists and local musicians of the Delta. His talent was quickly noticed by successful local musicians Aubrey Holman and Shake Bone Fest who taking him under their wings, encouraged him to continue with his writing. At the age of 20, Etheridge connected with another Greenville musician; William Coppage, and the two decided to move to North Carolina where the duo met with local UNCW jazz students Jason Moore and Chris Payne to form the band “Willie and Me.” “Willie and Me” built a quick following and over the next few years caught the attention of local film and music producer Geoff Hanson, best known for his work with “Widespread Panic” (Live at Oak Mountain and The Earth Will Swallow You) and as the writer and producer of the cult film Scrapple. “Willie and Me” was voted second best band in Honest Tune Magazine, won a Whammy (Wilmington’s Grammy), and was named band of the month by Beat Magazine. After years of successful touring, the band parted ways, with members pursuing solo careers. Etheridge is now 28 years old with, he says, “notebooks full of original music” and earns an honest living playing solo gigs four nights a week in Wilmington, NC.
