Short bio:
In music since 1988, Ro represents funk and all it's edge phenomena. His unique upfront
style brought him collaborations with George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic with his 90's
gogofunk band 'Gotcha!' and provided him with an award and several tv
commercials with his breakbeat soul crew OLaBOLA. Solo project Ro
& Paradise Funk (1996-2000) proved him to be that soul singer songwriter he
promised to be and the albums 'Paradise Funk' and 'Baby Baby Baby' were reviewed as 'best
Dutch soulfunk product of the year'. Nominated for the 'De Olifant' art & culture
price in 1996 in Haarlem Holland, winner of the Essent Award 2003, endorsed by Gretsch
'New Classic' drums and Istanbul cymbals. Ro Krom's musical history
covers latin (Drums United), crossover punkfunk (Beatcream, Raggende Manne), lots of
freelance work and guest appearances (Lefties Soul Connection, P-funk allstars,
Ghettoblaster, Coalition of the wicked, Psycoticbumpschool etc) and hip hop with his and
Rockatack Ten's visionairy posse 'The Once Upon A Time In Da Lowlands Crew'.
Press on Ro Krom:
-Woamm magazine, Maart 2008: 'Ro Krom: Probably the most tenacious octopus in Dutch
music history'
- Cazemba Abena, LA2day 2007: 'Kraak & Smaak's Ro Krom: Funkateer showman
extraordinaire. His genuine love of the stage and being in the moment is so real you can
taste it as he encourages to rife the groove. Singers Rose and Ro are on a mission to
bless you with funk. Ro is the consummate frontman. His boundless energy and innate
ability to connect with the crowd in an endearing way will have you chearing for him.
&133;
- David Menconi, The News Observer 2007: Shortly after that, fortune smiled again when I
took a stroll through the Austin convention center and happened onto Kraak & Smaak, an
utterly phenomenal funk band from the Netherlands that picks up where Deee-Lite left off
with "Groove Is in the Heart." Between the groovealicious beats (stoked on by
bandleader Ro Krom's kinetic drumming) and the smoky tones of vocalist Rose Stigter, they
were irresistible.
- Matt Annis, International iDJ magazine 2006: 'As usual, Kraak & Smaak impressed with
a mix of catchy vocals, rubbery funk vibes, crazy Rhodes action and the maddest drummer in
the world. If you get a chance to see them live, take it - they're definitely worth
seeing.
- Cazemba Abena, LA2day 2007: 'Realising the demand to bring their music live , the three
Dutchmen recruited longtime GoGo funkster, reggae mc and multi-instrumentalist Ro Krom, to
ignite the live show with drums and vocals.'
- Robyn Rubinstein, JamBase San Fransisco 2007: 'Drummer Ro Krom plays with electric
enthusiasm of Animal from the Muppet show: he and bassist Marc Baronner form a potent,
intuitive rhytm section'.
