Far "suonare" Hemingway e Kerouac, mentre "parla" la musica di Johnny Cash e Tom Waits, unire l'amore per la musica e la passione per le lettere, ecco la base di partenza di "SMILES & TROUBLES".
Da quando ho iniziato a suonare ho sempre creduto che la necessità interiore sia la vera forza scatenante di ogni esperienza artistica; non importa quale è il nostro campo d'azione, un libro, una canzone, un quadro (ma anche un film, il progetto di una sedia o una fotografia), tutto parte dall'insopprimibile necessità di condividere un concetto di bellezza.
Nel corso della mia formazione (che peraltro è ancora ampiamente in corso dopo vent'anni!) ho avuto la fortuna di di suonare con tantissimi musicisti , da Willy De Ville a Elliott Murphy, da Robert Gordon a Mick Taylor, da Luciano Pavarotti a Luciano Ligabue solo per citarne alcuni, sia dal vivo che in studio, sia in Italia che in Europa e negli Stati Uniti; quello che mi è rimasto dentro chiaramente è l'accettazione del Mistero della musica, quel modo impalpabile di far vibrare le corde dell'anima insomma, amore per la musica in tutte le sue forme.
I reading che di volta in volta vengono eseguiti dal vivo sono dei veri e propri pezzi unici, dati da un'accompagnamento musicale vivo che interagisce con la metrica di ciò che in quel momento viene letto e caratterizzato drammaturgicamente. Stessa cosa avviene per le mie canzoni, che nascono nel mio home studio e vengono poi riscoperte col gruppo, in un processo di avvicinamento alla necessità espressiva che serve a spogliare la musica di tutto ciò che è ridondante e superfluo.
Il tutto crea unatmosfera di scoperta, calda e coinvolgente, un luogo ove c'è spazio per il rock'n'roll ed il jazz, per il folk e il soul più ispirato.
Nel corso dello spettacolo sono eseguiti dei live-reading che comprendono pagine di Hemingway, Kerouac, Pavese, Shepard, Simone De Beauvoir, Mailer, Pessoa, Capote, Miller e altri, interpretati in musica, attraverso improvvisazioni volte a creare una drammaturgia sonora.
LE.P. in uscita nei primi giorni di gennaio 2005 contiene cinque pezzi tra i quali "Open letter to Ti Jean", ideale lettera a Jack Kerouac, una cover molto riarrangiata dell'immortale classico di Otis Redding "(Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay", la ballad "Walking Down the Green River", l'uptempo "You Saw the Light" e la cantautorale ed acustica "All the Same"

To let "play" Hemingway and Kerouac while it "speaks" the music of Johnny Cash and Tom Waits, gettin' together the love for music and the passion for letters, this is the beginning point of "SMILES & TROUBLES".
From when i began to play i've always believed that the real strength of every artistic experience it's the interior necessity, it doesn't matter in wich field you operate, you can be a writer, a songwiter, a designer, an architect, a movie director it's all linked with your need to share your personal idea of beauty.
I have had the lucky to play with a lot of great musicians, from Willy De Ville to Elliott Murphy, from Robert Gordon to Mick Taylor, from Luciano Pavarotti to Luciano Ligabue and many others, in studio and live, in Italy, Europe and United States; if i think to what this has left inside me i can say that is the acceptance of the Mistery of music, his power to make the strings of soul vibe, the love for music in all his mood and way.
To me musical genre it's an obsolete concept, no genre for Bob Dylan or Marvin Gaye, as there's no genre for Marcel Proust or Truman Capote or Ernest Hemingway, i don't want to close myself inside the comfortable edges of a precise genre, all i really want is to let me go in the "mare magnum" of inspiration.
I use to make live reading everytime different cause they are like music, they can't be the same.
My songs follow the same no-rule, they have their birth in my beloved home-studio ( my "room", only in a second time i've discovered that "Songs from a room"is the second Leonard Cohen album.) anyway, after the first recording step, i take my songs to my little group and i let my guys be wild on it, in the sense that i let them wear my songs around them, in a process of exchange that it want to reach the cleanest side of the music, no glitters and excess---
