Richie Bastar, has performed with some of the best known bands in the industry such as the Alegre All-Stars, Kako y Su Combo, Tito Puente, Tito Nieves, Machito, Johnny Pacheco, Pete "El Conde", Celia Cruz and many others.



Richie is currently working with El Gran Combo of Puerto Rico, who won the 2003 Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album.



Richie Bastar was born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents and a host of musically inclined family members. Among the most prominent family members is his grandmother (Eugenia Ramos) a dancer/percussionist and his father (Francisco "Kako" Bastar) a well known percussionist, composer and band leader. His father performed and/or recorded with Arsenio Rodriguez, Mongo Santamaria, Rafael Cortijo, Ismael Rivera: and, played and/or substituted for Tito Puente. He also co-founded the Alegre All-Stars.



Richie's early years influenced his love for music. His household was filled with the sounds of Cortijo, Arsenio Rodriguez, Chappotin, Tito Rodriguez, Tito Puente, and the Alegre All-Stars. His sister (Elizabeth) and brother (Cisco) meanwhile were listening to the Jackson Five, The Beatles, The Temptations and other groups from the Motown Record Label.



Richie Bastar is an accomplished studio musician who has recorded with some of the best selling artists in the industry - Tony Vega, Gilberto Santarosa, Tito Nieves, Cheo Feliciano, Isaac Delgado, Conjunto Classico, Grupo Fascinacion and Paul Simon's cast album of "The Capeman." The cast album also featured Marc Anthony and Ruben Blades.



Richie has been involved in recording sound tracks for movies and performed in the short run musical (The Capeman) on Broadway.



With El Gran Combo of Puerto Rico, Richie has traveled around the world to as far away as Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, France, England, Spain, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.



The music continues with the eldest of his four children, Damian studying piano and the other three kids: Richie Jr., Steven and Britney, are dancers.



Richie Bastar plays Pearl Percussion Drums and Effects.
