One of the industry’s most renowned up and coming music producer-songwriters, Ramon “REO” Owen (February 10, 1981) symbolizes variety and diversity while epitomizing individuality. Rising above the ranks, an innovative and driven craftsman of mechanical vibration REO’s sounds cause listeners to reclassify how they identify and relate with popular standards of music. He has received praise and celebration for his music from artists such as Beyoncé and T-Pain who describe his work as “so different and strong.” Revealed is REO’s rapidly growing profile as he has become a captivating musical force provoking listeners as well as superstars to pledge allegiance to his highly impressionable sounds.

From a young age studying illustration at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida, REO’s illustrations displayed music as being an unending force motivating his cause for existence and means for creative expression. The native of Goose Creek, South Carolina recalls his experiences in art school by suggesting, “The muse of my artwork was music. I would create artwork and the music would be there.”

Seven years now under his belt, REO is balancing and tweaking his own individual sound and has taken his career to the next level by forming the production company, The Soundkillers. However, REO like many aspiring talents in the music industry has tackled major problems to reach where he is today.

Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a cancer which affects the lymph nodes proved to be a time for serious self evaluation. Not one to stop creating REO declares, “I told myself that I had already beat it, and I did.” REO’s drive for music never faltered. His circumstance only pushed him even more toward perfecting his production skills.

His capabilities in the studio and distinct understanding for all genres of music has enabled REO to work with various artists including R& B star Teedra Moses, androgynous electro-pop singer Jeffree Star and Hip Hop star Juelz Santana. REO has featured productions with music superstars T-Pain, Keyshia Cole and Beyoncé among other prominent music figures. However, REO’s discography is on a mode of permanent expansion.

Among his many honors, REO was one of nine songwriters acknowledged at the Broadcast Music, Inc.’s (BMI) second annual “Who’s Next? Writers on the Rise” cocktail reception. At the event, REO was recognized for his extraordinary talents and his promising career which the organization believes will leave an “indelible mark on the music industry.”

Residing in Los Angeles, REO is constantly working on projects. Currently he is offering his talents to projects concerned with Toni Braxton, Keyshia Cole, and Chris Brown who are among a long list of superstar acts enlisting his musical insight.

Versatility and originality are traits undeniable in the work of REO. “How you use sounds and how you interpret them is what sets you apart from everyone else,” explains REO in determining what puts him a head above the new generation of emerging production minds. Competent, he has yet to slide into fifth gear, REO may have traveled many miles and encountered numerous obstacles but his journey to the top is well underway.
