RENA SCOTT
What more can be said of a singer extraordinaire who has national and international acclaimed. As one-time back-up singer for Aretha Franklin Rena has recorded and/or toured with such greats as the Jazz Crusaders, David Ruffin, Bobby Womack, and Michael Henderson; her voice has been heard on movie soundtracks, commercials
jingles; and has had movie and theatre acting roles.
The career of Rena Scott continues to evolve, and with her new CD titled "Take Me Away" on her own label Amor Records she shows no sign of stopping. This 13-song set contains songs that Scott co-wrote and co-produced with Lloyd Tolbert. It also contains four cover songs that are some of Scott's all-time favorites like "Dr. Feelgood", and "Don't Ask My Neighbors". Fans are in for a treat!
Growing up in Detroit Michigan, Scott was recognized at a very early age for her singing ability in church. She performed at her first talent show at age 13, and soon after her first record, "I Just Can't Forget That Boy", was released. She blossomed as a performer during that period as an opening act at local venues for many of the Motown acts like the Temptations, Four Tops, and the Originals. The highlight of that period was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing back-up for Aretha Franklin at the famed Carnegie Hall (where she vows to return someday). Her real claim to fame came some years later with the smash hit "Take Me I'm Yours", a duet with Michael Henderson.
With her signature style, of blending soul, pop and gospel we're sure she'll be around for a long time. Rena Scott seems to have skillfully found a way of preserving a rich soulful sound.
Her last CD/DVD (Dual Disk) set titled "Let Me Love You" was featured in a blockbuster movie shown on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, ABC and BET Movie's. Called Love And Action In Chicago. It starred Regina King, Courtney Vance, Katleen Turner and Ed Asner. She Charted in three categories on the Billboard Charts with her song "Remember" . It peeked to # 9 in the Hot Pop Single Sales Number "5" in the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales and # 80 in the Top 100 R&B/Hip Hop Songs. She remained on the and held strong for 18 weeks. Another song from that CD "A Love Thang" reached # 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales # 17 on the Hot Pop Single Sales
She has all of the ingredients that will take her to the top…
