Red Jezebel have just released a new single, not only just in time for Christmas and the band’s New Years Eve
performance, but also to coincide with the current Ashes series. Initially intending a Christmas-time release, the
current state of the Ashes for the home side has forced the Jez to pull out their big guns ahead of schedule, in the
name of increasing national morale and rallying support for the beleaguered Aussie Test team. Bodyline has been a
live staple in the Red Jezebel live set for a while and will be now be available FOR FREE from www.redjez.com just in
time for the third Ashes test at the band’s home ground, the WACA in Perth, until the final Aus v Eng ODI game of the
season on Sunday, February 6 (also held in Perth).
For those who’ve come in late…the somewhat bizarre journey of Red Jezebel to this point has certainly been one of
the more unusual in recent Australian music history. Parting parting ways with major label Warner Music, following
their signing to Festival Mushroom Records, saw Red Jezebel return to their indie roots, resulting in the release of the
acclaimed second album How I Learnt To Stop Worrying. The album was a remarkable achievement from a band that
had been through its fair share of up and downs. The result was 13 tracks of undeniable songwriting talent, not
bounded by any thoughts of genre-fitting or adherence to current musical trends.
A thirteen-year career has also seen the band – consisting of Paul Wood, Mark Cruickshank, Alex Hyman and Dave
Parkin - release four EPs and the acclaimed 2004 Revelations album. Along the ride Red Jezebel have also supported
the likes of Garbage, Elbow, Brad, Powderfinger, Something For Kate and The Living End as well as tour the country
with Eskimo Joe, Jebediah, Little Birdy, 78 Saab and more.
The new single, like the two albums before it, was recorded at Perth’s Blackbird Studio and produced by two-time
WAMi award-winning producer Dave Parkin (Snowman, Bob Evans, The Panda Band, The Exploders) who is now also a
full-fledged member of Red Jezebel since taking over guitar duties in November 2004.
"Ten years together and it's only album no. 2 for Perth's Red Jezebel. The experience, though, is evident in the confidence of their
songwriting and arrangements in this collection of beautifully crafted indie gems. This is melodic rock at its best, with atmospheric
swelling sounds, foot-tapping guitar rhythms and carefully layered effects." - 4/5 stars, Paul Smith, The Sydney Morning Herald
"A lot of artists proclaim to paint over a wide canvas of genres, but if Red Jezebel said that to me I would believe them. The thirteen
tracks here do in fact hold great variety and a wide range of ideas, instead of just the promise to do so…Excellent guitar work with
strong songwriting ensures that this record succeeds. It’s not particularly what they do, but how they do it, that makes this one
worth going back to." - Michael Pincott, Rave Magazine
“To these ears, this is musical innovation than comes once in every 1,000 bands, that cannot be described without actually playing
it… music so good it makes wading through the other 999 bands worthwhile." - Mike Wafer, Xpress Magazine
“…a clinic on how an album should sound – diverse yet retaining a continuity and punchy yet developed with substance. This is an
album that works for your attention and deserves it completely…Red Jezebel are unlucky to release this album so late in the year,
otherwise it would have been a shoe in for Album of the Year.” – 9.5/10, Alchemist, Tsunami Magazine
