REDHOUSE, SHEFFiELD

In 2006 the Redhouse stood as an empty pub in the middle of the old industrial quarter and red light district of Sheffield. It had seen a chequered history and was traditionally a folk led music venue in a grotty part of town. For this friendly little boozer to survive something had to change and it was with this in mind that the new owners, Jeff and Tracey, rewrote the market position of the Redhouse.



It came to pass that the modern Redhouse was born and with its birth was thrust a new entertainment and musical vision onto the public of Sheffield. Mixing the traditional pub values and events with modern youth culture and underground off the wall avant garde forays Redhouse became the name for good entertainment and friendly fun in Sheffield.



Expect to hear, see and taste a sample of great British entertainment. Local celebrities, national names and international stars have all graced the ambience of the Redhouse and in recent months our recognition and profile has increased with some locally high profile media coverage and the involvement in 2 of the biggest local festivals; Tramlines and Peace in The Park.



And so today Redhouse stands as a proud venue with national and international connections, it has been nominated by its customers for 3 local “Exposed Magazine” awards of “Best Live Venue” (against the Leadmill and The O2 Academy), “Best Bar” and “Best Traditional Pub”, an achievement never before attained in the history of the awards. It is synonymous with providing a wide range of entertainment and is very often the focus of good media attention. Over 300 bands pass through our doors annually, comedians, poets, magicians, belly dancers, DJ’s, rappers, karaoke performers, burlesque performers, artisans of all genres, races, creeds and cultures come to perform and to relax. So entertainment led is the Redhouse that there are no TV screens and the only coin operated machine is the small cigarette vender near the bar.



After 4 years of hard labour, recession and smoking bans; perhaps the hardest 4 years our industry has witnessed yet, Redhouse has pulled through. Its team is devoted to providing eclectic, dynamic and sometimes cutting edge entertainment and it is this that has kept us afloat.

Redhouse has just been named as winners of BEST ENTERTAINMENT PUB in the YORKSHIRE & NORTH EAST REGION in the national Great British Pub Awards 2010. This means Redhouse has the chance the go on to win the overall national award and we are invited to attend the awards dinner in the London Hilton.
