Vocalist and songwriter Rebekka Ling is mainly influenced by the great male soul-legends, from Marvin and Donnie to Stevie and Bilal. This fresh vocal talent from Amsterdam, The Netherlands has a warm and rich voice that easily adapts to the strong beats and jazzy harmonies in her music, best described as 'Soul with a futuristic twist'. Rebekka’s music contains elements of soul and Hip-Hop naturally combined with jazz and broken beat. The challenge she feels is to honour the style of the legends and blend them into her own songs. Rebekka was brought up in a home in the north of Holland, where music always seemed present. Records of gospel and soul music from Al Green and the Isley Brothers to Earth Wind and Fire is what she remembers when looking back. Also country, pop/rock from the 60-70‘s and jazz developed her musical taste. About another important source of inspiration: ‘As a young girl, the famous close-harmony group Take 6 sounded magical to me’. All these styles have formed her into the singer she is today.

At the age of six Rebekka began taking general music lessons and a year later she chose the flute to be her instrument. For over seven years she praticed classical and jazz flute. Gradually she developed her voice in a natural way during childhood and teens by singing with her brother and sisters. One would play piano while the others practiced the harmonies. Rebekka got more attracted to singing when they performed regularly at parties or in church. She then started listening to the jazzdiva’s and artists like Joni Mitchell, Erykah Badu and D’Angelo and from there to Hip-Hop. ‘Writing lyrics was a new craft that I wanted to develop’.

From 1996, a period of performing and touring through Europe with a gospel choir and different bands, studiorecordings for album’s and EP’s (The Proov, Benny Sings, Baileo Music and many others), her study at the conservatory of Amsterdam and working as a backgroundvocalist for Dutch and international artists (Berget Lewis, Boris, Sandra St. Victor, Ruth Jacott) would then follow. Performances on stages such as Paradiso and Melkweg and other Dutch festivals and venues, these experiences have been inspiring to Rebekka. In 2005 she was chosen by the audience as FunX (Dutch R’nB radiostation) talent with her own composition ‘Ain’t nothing better’.

Now the vocalist is here with an own sound. As a new solo artist Rebekka wants to reach people from different cultures with their various musical interests and background.
