BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised on a farm in Brazil, Reah Fernandes Valente fell in love with music at age 3, when she discovered Credence Revival, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles. Born to a disco-hopping German fashion model and her father, a Portuguese lawyer by day and DJ by night, Reah was eager to carve her own path in the music industry. She composed her first song at the age of 10 and later picked up the electric guitar, bass, and drums by the time she was 15.
A rebellious teen, Reah would often skip classes to attend band practice or local concerts. With an unquenchable thirst to explore the world on her own terms, Reah left her home in Brazil when she was 16, after signing up for a foreign exchange program in Ohio. It was here that she learned English and immersed herself in the North American music scene.
By the age of 18, Reah grew even more restless. One night, she snuck out of the house and boarded the first plane to Osaka, Japan, to join her aunt, who ran a modeling agency there. With no money and no friends, she worked odd jobs to buy food and pay rent. After learning Japanese, Reah began to model and eventually assumed a management role at her aunt's agency.
In 2002, frustrated by her lack of fulfillment in the modeling world, the 20 year old shaved her head, grabbed her guitar, and started playing on the streets of Tokyo. After several months, she met a prominent Japanese producer who encouraged her to step out of her shell and sing her own songs.
Reah took his words to heart, and fast forward a year and a half later, she released her first album "Certain Relativity" (2005), which was produced in
a small studio in Japan. She began playing all over Japan and even had her own radio show. Always one to take things to the next level, Reah had her sights set on the conquering the U.S. In 2005, she moved to New York City to start from scratch: hitting the clubs and the streets, knocking on doors and receiving rejection wherever she went. Although the culture shock was huge, Reah stuck to her guns and was determined to make it. One day, she met renowned hip-hop producer Andy "Red Spyda" Thelusma (Eminem, 50-Cent) who saw something special in this feisty Brazilian rockstar. Soon after that chance encounter, Reah was on her way to Los Angeles where she was put in touch with more legendary producers (Paul Fox and Dave Cobb, who produced 10,000 Maniacs and Bjork). During the summer of 2006, Reah began producing and recording her next album ("My Way Back Home") with this dynamic duo. The years 2007 to 2009 were marked by a frenzied focus on writing and eventually recording what would become her breakthrough album, "Psychedelic Cinema", which wouldn't be released until March of 2009. The album, a fun, sexy collage of psychedelic funk, rock, and jazz, was singled out by CD Baby's editor as a featured Editor's Pick.
Today, the 27 year old has markedly matured and grown into her own, comfortable in her skin, and prouder than ever of her Brazilian heritage. With a renewed interest in her ethnic origins, and humble beginnings, Reah is currently at work on writing the lyrics to her first Portuguese language album, as yet untitled, due for release in the spring of 2010. The album is poised to be her most romantic one yet. With a unique voice, and multi-cultural influence, Reah Valente's voice will linger with you long after the last note fades.
