It has appeared on thousands of records and shared the stage with the world’s greatest bands. It also graces the concrete floors of countless garages and basements, standing ready to assist the next generation of guitarists. Nearly thirty years after its introduction, the RAT remains the distortion pedal of choice for discerning musicians around the world.

Most distortion pedals are designed to emulate the tone of an existing amplifier. RAT pedals are engineered to work in conjunction with your guitar and amp, to add new sounds to your tonal palate. Perhaps the greatest feature of the RAT is one that does not appear on the spec sheets. RAT pedals don’t bury the tone coming from your fingers. They allow the personality of the player to come through.

So, what type of musician plays a RAT? They certainly cannot be defined by a single genre. Over the years, they have been punk rockers, new wavers, jazz virtuosos, shoegazers, flannel-clad grunge gods, metal masters, and indie-rock darlings. The common thread, though, is that the player who chooses a RAT tends to be an innovator. They would rather create their own sound than imitate someone else’s. This is why we are proud to count Jeff Beck, John Scofield, Andy Summers, Thurston Moore, Kurt Cobain, and Thom Yorke as among the guitarists who have strapped a RAT onto their pedalboard.

Are you in a band that has recorded with the RAT? If so, we may want to showcase your music on this MySpace site, as well as feature you on the

new RAT Distortion website . Drop us a line!
