R&B singer/songwriter Rachel Palumbo was born in the Queen City, Buffalo, New York. Growing up listening to a variety of music has created "culture" and echoed the melody of soul into her life. Upon being inspired by many different artists ranging from old school legends BB King and Aretha Franklin, to new age singers such as Alicia Keys and Joss Stone, Rachel's inner artist blossomed.
"Since age 3, I have always had a strong desire to sing. I knew it was destined to be. Music is what drives me and what fuels my life. I enjoy listening to all types of music. Because I have been turned on to many types of music, I can adapt and sing on almost any type of track. Blues music was introduced to me about 7 years ago. I stumbled upon an old BB King album and the rest is history. I was intrigued by the genuine sound of his music and his voice. As I learned more about the blues and R&B, I found myself relating to it on many levels. Above all else, I want to be the type of artist that inspires people."-Rachel Palumbo
Rachel has performed/auditioned at many venues ranging from local talent showcases, clubs and black tie affairs to American Idol. In 2008 her song "Take Notes" featuring Mandie, held the number 1 spot on Buffalo's Hip-Hop and R&B radio station 93.7WBLK. This 5 week stretch at number 1 granted her the opportunity to open for national recording artist, RayJ in May of 2008. In 2009 her emotionally driven song "Last Tear", written for those experiencing long distance relationships, held the number 1 spot again for 5 weeks on Buffalo's hip-hop and R&B station 93.7 WBLK. These two successes awarded her nominations for "2009 Female R&B Artist of the Year" and "Single of the Year" in Upstate New York at the 2009 Unsigned Hype Music Awards (held on April 25th 2009 in the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, New York). Ultimately winning the award for "2009 Female R&B Artist of the Year", Rachel went on to sing the National Anthem for her hometown minor league baseball team, the Buffalo Bisons. Another recent success includes placing 3rd in Showtime at The Apollo's Amateur Night in Harlem, New York. In late 2008, Rachel placed 2nd in the U. S. Army's 5 week long Operation Rising Star National Singing Competition in Texas. In November of 2009, Rachel opened for national neo-soul recording artist N'Dambi at the Tralf Music Hall in Buffalo, NY. For the 2nd consecutive year, Rachel was honored with a nomination for the "2010 Female R&B Artist of the Year" award at Upstate NY's Unsigned Hype Music Awards held on June 19th, 2010. She triumphed again by winning the award again in 2011!
Rachel has what it takes to succeed in this industry. With her drive and determination, she is destined to make it happen. Her versatility in music has opened doors for great collaborations. She sings and writes R&B and soul tracks while also dabbling in the hip hop genre. Every step in music is a step in the right direction. In Rachel's words, "with an open mind and soulful melody, anything is possible".
