pulse. are a five-piece alternative rock band based in Athens, Greece. Their name (including the full stop) is inspired by the flat pulse shown on a cardiogram, signifying the end and a new beginning. They consist of Nick Vogiatzakis (guitars, programming), Michael Moschos (guitars, lap steel) John Stavrakakis (vocals), Nick Markou (bass) and Paul Monastiriotis (drums).
All the band's members, except for the bass player, were born and raised on the Greek island of Crete, which they left at the age of 18 to study in Athens and the UK. The first incarnation of what would eventually become pulse. was formed in 2004, when guitarists Nikos and Michalis randomly met at a party in Athens. Their music is deeply influenced by the different cities they've lived in, combining opposite cultures and mixing diverse musical worlds, from traditional folk to British indie rock.
Their first album, 'Another Roadside Attraction' includes 11 English-lyric songs, featuring melodic to heavy guitar riffs, atmospheric vocals, as well as pre-recorded sounds and effects. During their live performances, except for their own songs, they play covers of well-known bands -like Depeche mode, Duran Duran, Placebo, Muse, PJ Harvey, U2 etc.- and they often end their gigs jamming and improvising on stage.
pulse. live and work in Athens and are currently focusing on recording the final version of their album and throwing gigs all around Greece.
