With melancholic tunes for the down-at-heart and foot-stompers for the down-trodden , President Roots sing songs of bittersweet joy. The band formed in October 2005 for the PBS Radio festival of song of which they were one of six prize winning finalists. They then took up a local weekly residence at the Bay Hotel in Mornington honing their craft and playing to enthusiastic audiences. Bigger gigs followed supporting Richard Clapton, Dallas Frasca and touring with Candian legend Fred Eaglesmith and Bill Chambers. The Roots have ventured to the Tamworth Country Music Festival twice. In 2007 they were the winners of the coca cola battle of the bands and the subject of a documentary by exit films.Returning in 2008 for a string of dates at the West Leagues Club and claiming 3rd prize and the hand made Tonkins guitar in the Leaders festival competition .Their debut album is currently being mixed by Julian Mendelsohn ( Paul McCartney,Kate Bush) and Mark Frith ( The Clash,Tom McCrae)with a scheduled release date of June 2009.

"In every milk and whiskey sodden juice joint President Roots should be playing their lonesome threnodies, bucking up the unlucky and providing the terminally downcast with a little succour and a modicum of cheer, for they are the scent of woodsmoke that this mildewed world needs, the tinkling of mandolined airs that brings bittersweet joy to these damp dives we must drown ourselves in, the jingling of something real in our memories, the ringing of something true. God bless their clear blue eyes shining in the mud of modernity " Justin Currie (Del Amitri)
