Prentice M. Knight

PRENTICE KNIGHT BIO: Since the year of 1991, Prentice M. Knight of Dayton, Ohio has been uniquely anointed to inspire & captivate lives with a God-given gift. This minstrel, born the second of four children into a family deeply rooted in the ministry, has been privileged to work and serve alongside some of music's greatest treasures. He has crossed the boundaries of a traditional church influence into various musical styles. Prentice has trained in jazz & classical piano, as well as a steel drummer & percussionist. The passion for God & the "universal language" that was demonstrated by this young person was unprecedented for one his age.
This all began with a heart-felt desire to learn about the world of music & all that it had to offer, inspired by his father. At age 8 he began serving as a musician @ Faith Deliverance COGIC. The next year he was learning the basics of music theory at Dayton's esteemed Summer Music Institute. In the year (1997), he became the organist for his home church at the demise of his father. Within the church itself, Prentice has crossed denominational boundaries as well, being respected for his ability to play all forms within the Gospel & Chirstian music spectrum. In addition to serving with (now) Vital Records recording artist New Harvest for nearly 7 years, he has also assisted almost EVERY Gospel artist & ministry in the entire Miami Valley.
Knight is a proud graduate of the prestigious (former) Colonel White High School for the Arts, garnering the title of Most Outstanding Pianist in 2000 @ Midstates (tri-state) Jazz Camp, University of Dayton. In 2002 he became a recipient of the nationally recognized Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. He presently serves as organist for the Shiloh, Corinthian & Mt. Calvary Baptist Churches of Dayton, Ohio. Knight is also a staff musician for the Phillips Temple CME Church- Trotwood, OH. Prentice serves as the proud District Minister of Music, as well as a state organist in the Ohio Northwest Jurisdiction- Churches of God In Christ, Inc. His greatest roles are as husband (to Brande) and father (to Prentice Jr. & Preston).
In addition to all of these tremendous responsibilities, Knight is a member of the Golden Gospel Singers (GGS), who travel exstensively across Europe. He is also dedicated to developing a curriculum for musicians to help with their comprehension of Gospel music & theory. The goal is to give aspiring musicians a foundation of technical knowledge while nurturing the gifts and talents they may already possess, while encouraging those who are already on the scene to gain these same tools, so that they can use the basic musical principles to further enhance their skill. Knight is also a producer of instrumental/accompaniment tracks- an effort with a primary purpose of assisting churches who are without musicians to have a customized “live” element in worship. This tool is yet another facet of Prentice’s ministry & desire to bless God and His people.
