Porphyria was created towards the end of 2003 by Shawn Macdonald and Tim Murphy accompanied by a drum machine. In early 2004 the band finally became a full band as members Daniel Glynn, Dane Rand and Tom Couture joined. In mid 2005 they released the 'What No Eyes Could See' EP. Recorded by Ken Susi (Unearth) and mastered by Nick Zampliello (The Red Chord, Isis), the EP is five songs of brutal technical death metal that will leave some serious bruises. Shortly after the EP release, Daniel left bass duties and Shawn switched from guitar to bass due to wrist injuries during the recording. After playing as a 4-piece for a short period of time the band recruited Blue as a second guitarist towards the end of 2005. In the following couple years the band played close to 200 shows all over the Northeast US (and Canada) and as far as Ohio, with national and international acts such as Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Cattle Decapitation, Despised Icon, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Beneath the Massacre, Vital Remains, Ion Dissonance, Mortician, Immolation, Malignancy, Incantation, Dehumanized and tons more. The band came to an abrupt end in the fall of 2007. Members have moved on to several different projects, check out the 'Life after.' blog for more details.
