A Brief History:

What is Pollux?

Polux is one-half of the Gemini constellation. Castor and Pollux were inseparable twin brothers. Though a skilled fighter on his own, Castor was killed in a fight with his cousin Idas. Inconsolable, Pollux pleaded with Zeus to grant his beloved brother immortality. Zeus was so moved by Pollux’s mourning of Castor that he would later place them both in the heavens, side by side, as the Gemini constellation. To the band, Pollux equals devotion, love, and celebration.

Who is Pollux?

Pollux is a San Francisco-based rock ensemble made up of Carey Head, Kevin Weber, Daniel Stevenson and Matthew Charles Heulitt. Like Zeus’ immortal son Pollux, these musicians embody celebration – a celebration of rhythm, emotion, melody and song. Inspired by artists like Jeff Buckley, Chet Baker, Led Zeppelin and Stevie Wonder, this self-proclaimed “torch-rock” band spawned out of the band’s mutual love of music, songwriting, and performance.

The result of this collaboration was not to be predicted. The combination of a talented singer-songwriter with a haunting voice, a multi-talented percussionist, and a drummer/songwriter come bassist immediately became something much greater than the sum of its parts; a sound described as "Rufus Wainwright-meets-At The Drive In” – Ben Temchine, Your Call Radio.

The trio's chemistry has since evolved into a deep working friendship. For the past two years they have toured, playing shows in the Bay Area, New York and Europe. Pollux was recently joined by acclaimed guitarist Matthew Charles Heulitt, who lends his unique sound and experience to the band; helping them create the rich and mature sound heard in their latest full-length album “For the Ghost.”

“For the Ghost” is the first full-length album to come from the band and features eleven original songs.

The album opens with the ethereal beginning of "For the Ghost,” a song about escaping the trappings of a sedentary life, but then kicks in full force with bombastic guitars and a driving rhythm section. The subject matter in the songs follow themes anyone can relate to, such as escape ("For The Ghost", "Break Out"), desire and lost love ("Burn", "Places"), but also venture out to darker areas like loss, abuse and disillusionment ("Wish", "Drown", "Over and Over") and, ultimately, death and rebirth ("This is the Red Sea").

Pollux’s full-length album “For the Ghost” was released independently March 3rd, 2009. It is currently available on iTunes or can be purchased at polluxmusic.com.
