Podgy Figures….Your Hustler’s favourite Hustler!

Where does one start?Well, let’s take you back, way back!

Podgy grew up in the mean streets of Acton. He was fairly slim until he gained a little weight and was nick-named “Podgy” by his friends! You may then wonder where the name “Figures” has come from. Anyone from West London can tell you! Over the years Podgy’s ‘Make More Money’ attitude has given him the second part of his name.

“Your Hustler’s favourite Hustler” worked hard for his money doing what he did. However, he still wasn’t satisfied. This boy had talent, and everyone knew it……….he was going to be big

Why is his name on everyone’s lips?

For Podgy, what he has is never enough. His constant want for more has earned him his name as a reputable, recognised and more importantly a ‘real’ rapper today.

How did he do it?

Unlike most artists today, Podgy ‘did-it-himself.’ It all started when he hooked up with ‘Most Valuable Productions’ (MVP) and worked alongside his producer ‘Church’ (‘Church beats’). Podgy has managed to motivate himself, and find the path to his passion……….music. He started rapping at a young age and upon entering the studio he realised he had made the best decision he was ever going to make.

Podgy’s Journey in Music.

It all began with his debut album ‘Peacemaker’ in 2005. Months later, Podgy’s second album ‘Hood Gazette’ featuring the singles “First you MC now you rappin” and “Podgy” was released giving him his break. Both videos were repeatedly played on Channel U and MTV……….finally the fans were able to put a face to the name! Podgy began performing live on stage at various venues in and around London. His music was also praised in numerous magazines (English and European) ‘Rewind,’ ‘Touch’ and, ‘Underground, ’ to name a few.

2006 was the year for ‘Love is Love’ a mix tape (also featuring all his videos including “Rocked up”) which was influenced by the feedback Podgy received from his fans. He took us back to the “First you MC…” vibe with various re-mixes of his hits along with new vocals and fresh beats. This album mirrored Podgy’s creative personality giving us an insight into his outgoing, yet serious side.

What makes him so different?

Listen to his music and you will instantly warm to his unique, laid back catchy beats. Podgy’s lyrics simply tell a story, a very deep one. Anyone that grew up in the streets will automatically be able to relate to it, and for those that are oblivious to this way of life will get a street education through his music. Podgy does not associate himself with the generic urban style that surrounds us today. He feels that many artists today tend to follow the trend and make music that lacks substance. “If you are a rapper then continue to do so, and if you are an MC then remain MC-ing…when an MC tries to rap it all goes horribly wrong!!!!” This view is illustrated in “First you MC…”

So what is Podgy doing now?

Gingerbread Man…………Catch me if you can

‘Catch me if you can’ is Podgy’s first release of 2007. Not only does this album show Podgy’s vast growth in the rap game, but cleverly reflects who he is today. The name of the album was derived from his newly formed clothing company which predominantly aims to promote his logo the Gingerbread Man. Watch out for the album and the funky but sophisticated clothing range coming soon!

Podgy FM 91.5

Podgy Figures- a self motivated successful artist, has also set up his very own radio station, Podgy FM 91.5.

The Podgy FM project was something he felt he needed to do for the people. The radio station is not only aimed at promoting his own music but to educate the listener’s on the various genres of black music. The station plays anything from old skool soul and funk, to slow jamz, rnb, hip hop, rare groove, garage and funky house. Podgy repeatedly encourages DJ’s wanting their big break to come forward to play sets on air, as well as unsigned / up and coming artists to send him their demo’s in order to promote them further. Podgy’s view is “We’re all on the same team.” The station is definitely worth tuning into every Fri 4pm-Sun 1am. The Podgy Fam DJ’s keep listeners locked, not to mention the endless amounts of requests and shouts from the fans and London listeners!!

Check out Channel U for Podgy’s videos, keep tuned into Podgy 91.5FM and lastly KEEP IT REAL………”IF IT AINT PODGY IT’S DODGY!!”
